We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Part Time to Full Time Social Worker to join a supportive and dynamic team at the Mater Hospital- North Sydney.

About the Role:

Permanent Part Time to Full Time Contract - 0.6 to 1FTE (22.5 to 38/40hours/week).

Days and hours of work negotiable.

Optional ADOs for Full Time role.

Job share potentially available.

Areas of work include oncology, palliative care, renal, ICU, general medicine, cardiac, acute orthopaedics. Opportunity for group based work and ongoing Professional Development.

About You:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and providing a specialised social work service to inpatients, their families, and carers in collaboration with other health care professionals at the Mater Hospital in designated clinical areas.


This is by way of:

  • Participating as a member of the multidisciplinary team

  • Carrying out the responsibilities of the position in a manner consistent with the mission of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.

  • Facilitating person centred care and provide a continuity of psychosocial assessment, risk-management, support, counselling to inpatients at the Mater Hospital.

  • Facilitating complex care and discharge planning and guiding psychosocial interventions

  • Ensuring a high level of social work practice is maintained consistent with professional standards as defined by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Committing to ongoing professional development and teaching through research, education and mentoring junior staff and social work students

  • Participating in strategic planning and quality improvement activities within the Allied Health Department

  • Participating in meetings of AASW Special Interest Groups and other groups of relevance to the delivery of a high quality Social Work Service to patients at the Mater

  • Supervising other Social Work team members - permanent and casual cohort
     

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) with evidence of clinical experience in a hospital or health related field as a practicing Social Worker.

  • Substantial post-graduate private or public hospital experience

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the core values of The Mater mission

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical reasoning, experience and practical skills to provide comprehensive social work service to patients, families and carers in an acute hospital environment.

  • Advanced practice skills, knowledge and experience in adjustment to acute and chronic illness, conducting complex psychosocial assessments, case-management, crisis intervention, strengths- based and solution-focused counselling and interventions, end-of-life care and bereavement counselling and skills, group work, advocacy an safe care-planning

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary and social work teams in a high pressured, specialised environment with competing demands and prioritise where necessary

  • Well-developed skills in written and verbal communication, computer literacy, time management, prioritisation, liaison and negotiation

  • Ability to undertake and contribute to projects and lead quality improvement and education activities with commitment to maintaining professional skills and knowledge base.

  • Demonstrated experience in provision of clinical supervision, mentoring and development of level1/2 staff and students

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education

Desirable requirements:

  • Post-graduate private or public hospital experience at least four years

  • Extensive experience in counselling of patients and their carers in palliative care

  • Computer literacy

  • Commitment to quality improvement

  • Ability to be flexible and dynamic with work hours
