About the role:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team and provide specific support to our Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (DASAS). DASAS is a state-wide 24/7 free helpline telephone service that offers advice to health professionals across NSW on the clinical management of patients with Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) concerns. The Clinical Nurse Consultant is responsible for the provision of comprehensive drug and alcohol clinical consultancy and determining appropriate solutions to queries, including providing accurate advice, to health professionals within their scope of practice.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will be the main point of contact for DASAS and will work in collaboration with Alcohol and Drug Staff Specialists and Counsellors. The CNC will carry out their duties while working in tandem with the Hospital Drug and Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDA-CL) in the assessment and management of patients with drug and alcohol related conditions during hospital presentations and/or during care.
This role forms part of a 3 year contract. The CNC will be expected to work varying rosters over the 3 year period as outlined below:
-Monday to Sunday 8:30am to 5:00pm

Selection Criteria
Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency
At least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent in specialty field. and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
Demonstrated high level computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system
Demonstrated high level effective communication and interpersonal skills using a telephone
Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse
Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads with in a complex environment
