Job Description:

Position Title: Clinical Nurse Educator – Surgical Stream

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Hours per week: 38

Position Grade: Clinical Nurse Educator

Salary: $106,491.24 - $109,945.46 base per annum

Enterprise Agreement: The Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Health Organisations’ Nurses Agreement 2017

About the role:

Xavier 8 South, a high acuity surgical ward at St. Vincent's Public Hospital, offers a wide range of specialties, including Trauma, Head and Neck, Ear Nose and Throat, Upper Gastrointestinal, Surgical Oncology, and Colorectal. We are committed to delivering the highest standard of care to our patients and fostering the professional growth of our clinical staff.

As a Clinical Nurse Educator, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the skills and knowledge of our nursing and clinical staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the clinical education needs of our staff.
  • Collaborating with the Nursing Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultants, and Surgical Stream Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical education.
  • Ensuring equitable access to educational support and resources for all staff, both transient and permanent, to enhance their clinical competence.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice principles in the development of policies and procedures within our clinical environment and the broader organization.
  • Delivering up-to-date, evidence-based education to our healthcare professionals.
  • Support and develop staff to deliver pertinent and sensitive nursing skills autonomously and in a team environment. This includes staff undertaking the “Introduction to Specialty Practice – Surgical Nursing” course run through St Vincent’s Health Network, Sydney.

Selection Criteria:

1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

2. Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency

3. Relevant clinical or education post-graduate qualifications and at least 12 months experience working in the relevant clinical area related to their qualifications, or four years post-registration experience including three years’ experience in the relevant specialist field

4. Demonstrated knowledge of innovative educational strategies, tools and approaches including e-learning

5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

6. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system

7. Certificate IV in workplace training and education or willingness to undertake within the first 12 months of employment
