About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Mental Health Service.
The St Vincent’s Mental Health Service provides specialist mental health assessment, intervention and treatment to consumers with a range of mental health issues and face a range of social challenges in both inpatient and community settings. Nursing staff have the opportunity to work in the mental health service, working alongside an MDT treating consumers with often complex mental health needs and co-morbidities. We offer applicants a supportive team environment and stimulating workplace with a variety of learning and development opportunities. Applicants will benefit from having prior experience working in mental health or have a keen and motivated interest to pursue a career in mental health nursing.

St Vincent’s Mental Health Service:
St Vincent’s Mental Health Service consists of 5 areas staffed by mental health clinicians:
The Safe Assessment Space (SAS) is part of the Emergency Department (ED) providing consumers presenting to the ED with a safe space and skilled mental health input and assessment from the beginning of their consumer journey at St Vincent’s.
The Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) is a 6 bedded short stay unit for consumers experiencing acute distress and to provide evidence based care to those in crisis. The PECC team strives to work collaboratively with consumers to optimise recovery and foster resilience in order to support individuals to return to the community.
Caritas unit is a 27 bedded inpatient adult acute mental health ward. Caritas consists of a 21 bedded acute ward for ongoing treatment and monitoring of people experiencing acute phases of mental illness. It also hosts 6 high dependency beds to support consumers with increased care needs.
Acute Care Service (ACS) provides community based assessment and interventions for people presenting with mental health disorders or illnesses and other risk factors such as suicidal ideation. This allows early engagement in care and alternative to hospitalisation where appropriate and safe.
Mental Health Triage service offers the systematic and timely prioritisation of referrals into the mental health service ensuring all relevant aspects of the person’s presentation, symptoms and risk factors are considered.
The casual bank also provides mental health support for consumers accessing care across the broader hospital in none mental health settings.

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Registered Nurses who possess a passion for person-centred care to join our dynamic and accomplished multidisciplinary team providing care for people with mental health disorders / illnesses living in the inner city area.

Selection Criteria
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
2. Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.
3. Demonstrated ability to work within the interdisciplinary team.
4. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
5. Demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system.
6. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse.
8. Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads with in a complex environment.
