About the Role

As the Oncology registrar (fixed term 9 months) you will be part of a clinical team working across the public and private hospitals. You will contribute to a variety of different cancer MDMs and will be rostered to a combination of in-patient ward service and ambulatory clinics across both the public and private hospitals. In the private hospital you will also join the consultative palliative care service. You will be rostered to 1 in 3 weeks on-call after hours, with senior consultant support.

This is a 9 month,  EFT 1.0  fixed term position. Classifications for this position will range from HM25 – HM30 ($125,900.4 – $173,290.00 per annum)

Duties

  • Clinical responsibilities: Care for oncology in-patients at either the public or private hospital (on rotation 6 months - SVHM, 3 months SVPH), out-patients and day-patients. See inpatient consultations referred from other hospital units (at the public or private hospitals)
  • Participate in the inpatient palliative care consultative service at SVPH (3 months)
  • Attend and contribute to cancer multidisciplinary meetings, as rostered.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with other services, eg GP, radiation oncology, palliative care, psycho-oncology.
  • Maintain hospital and department records in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Participate in academic and continuing medical education activities.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with APHRA
  • Previous experience in medical oncology preferred but not essential
  • Post Graduate Year 3 or above level of training preferred 
  • Good communication skills at a primary patient care and inter-professional level.
  • Strong interest in patient care, research and clinical trials

About the Department

The Oncology Department is part of the Cancer Service within St Vincent's Hospital. There is a strong emphasis on excellent coordinated multi-disciplinary care. The hospital has active psycho-oncology and palliative care services. Radiation oncology consultations and treatments are provided on site by Genesis Care. The Department is housed in a purpose built Cancer Centre consisting of consulting and treatment areas. St Vincent's Private hospital is co-located and includes inpatient and cancer day treatment areas. The Oncology Department has an active clinical trials unit. The medical staff consists of 4 full time and 2 sessional Oncologists, 2 other advanced trainees and 2 resident medical officers.
