Job Description Summary

Under general supervision of the Building Engineer, accomplishes skilled craftsman level trades related duties in varying types of maintenance, minor construction, and alterations work, i.e., routine repairs, trouble calls, preventative maintenance, renovations, and alterations. Participates in outages, provides input to inspectors and others in coordinating the work of other shops and contractors in assigned zones. Provides indirect supervision of other mechanics and helpers on an as needed basis when more than one employee is needed to complete a task. Must have ability to work different fields of maintenance and to diagnose equipment problems and find solutions.

Job Description

35%-Answer trouble calls in assigned area. These calls involve all trade areas, including, but not limited, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, tile, signs, hardware, etc. Examples of specific tasks are repairing or replacing plumbing fixtures, flush valves, and hot and cold water systems.

35%-Installing and making minor repairs on small appliances; replacing light tubes, ballasts, fixtures, outlets, and electrical systems; repairing door hardware; repairing tile, cove base, wallpaper, Formica, hanging pictures, moving furniture and equipment; replacing ceiling tiles, stair treads, door stops; performing P.M., Q.A., J.C.A.H., etc. checks. Changes A/C filters, belts, cleans coils, etc. and assists in other areas as needed.

10%-Completes alteration and maintenance work orders.

10%-Make inspections and correct inspection deficiencies.

10%Performs back-flow and other jobs in accordance with training provided by MUSC and work experience. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Some positions require a commercial driver's license. Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification.
