Job Description Summary

A postdoctoral position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Shahid Husain in the Storm Eye Institute in the Department of Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will conduct research in the areas of cellular and molecular biology of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death in glaucoma and other ocular
pathologies. The projects will be using physiological, Molecular Biology, and biochemical methods. The research projects will particularly focus on epigenetic and metabolic changes induced RGC death and neuroprotection strategies will be implemented to reduce axonal and RGC death. Our laboratory utilizes a variety of in vivo and in vitro models including acute and chronic rodent glaucoma models, isolated ocular cells from rodent and human donor eyes. Numerous techniques and procedures will be utilized in these projects including RNA Seq, Bisulfite Seq, ATAC Seq, qRT-PCR, Immunofluorescence of tissues and cells, Western Blotting, functional studies such as Electroretinograms and Optokinetic. This position will also require assisting and training of other personnel in the lab.
