Battery / Electric Vehicle / Automotive Vice President

Position Description:

We are seeking a Vice President to join our Project and Development Services (“PDS”) team in Chicago to manage all aspects of electric vehicle and automotive projects for our global list of Fortune 100 clients. As a Project Manager, you will direct, plan, manage, and execute design and construction projects in an Owner’s Representative role. This role requires expertise in project management, construction methodologies, battery technologies, EV charging systems, and automotive manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide extensive understanding of project and program management principles, methods, and techniques
  • Oversee and lead large, complex automotive and electric vehicle projects including programming, design, entitlements, bidding, permitting and construction management
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while aligning with client objectives across your active project list
  • Take responsibility for the overall success of major projects
  • Proactively analyze and manage project-related issues and mitigate risks.
  • Define success criteria and disseminate to involved parties throughout project and program life cycle
  • Create an engaging environment where the project team is committed to achieving outcomes that exceed clients’ expectations and meet JLL’s objectives
  • Establish effective organizational structure for reporting, communication, and working procedures, and ensure that clear objectives and quality control systems are in place.
  • Lead a team of professionals to exceed client’s expectations for all project management services while executing projects alongside the team.
  • Provide on-site leadership for the project team, motivating team members to meet project goals
  • Lead project management team meetings
  • Set and continually manage project and/or program expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project and/or program team, analyze results and troubleshoot problem areas
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project and program team
  • Manage team and develop talent
  • Assist in training and developing JLL team members in the skills and understanding of firm procedures, methodology and practices expected for successful project implementation. 
  • Facilitate and encourage the project team to establish practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand the capabilities for the organization.
  • Demonstrate a focus on meeting client and project requirements in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Manage project planning for all phases of the project
  • Work closely with client user groups in coordinating their specific requirements.
  • Develop scope, estimate costs, and develop project budgets and schedules
  • Manage the procurement process
  • Assemble and manage the required teams of consultants and contractors 
  • Assist with feasibility studies, RFP process, proposal evaluation, and vendor recommendations for evaluation by appropriate key stakeholders
  • Assist with contract negotiations
  • Interface with consultants, architects, contractors, client staff, property owners and vendors
  • Provide appropriate level of on-site supervision to ensure project performance criteria are being met.
  • Manage the delivery of progress report and other necessary documentation to effectively communicate project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues
  • Manage the day-to-day project activities and monitor overall project progress
  • Manage project scope and changes
  • Act as an internal quality control check for the project and participate in quality issue resolution
  • Manage the monitoring, tracking, and resolution of issues, conflicts, dependencies, and critical path deliverables
  • Identify and develop trusted adviser relationships with project and/or program stakeholders
  • Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget and quality standards
  • Continue professional development to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods and best practices
  • Monitor the performance of staff
  • Assist with performance reviews and staff development
  • Identify and address areas of concern regarding potential liabilities and risk
  • Assist in the establishment and refinement of best practices and standards of excellence.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction
  • Maintain excellent client relationships

Minimum Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.  An advanced degree is an advantage.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 6 10 - years of relevant and progressive work experience in project management
  • Extensive experience with industrial projects is mandatory
  • In-depth knowledge of project management and extraordinary skills in the discipline
  • Experience leading project teams and managing numerous projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use and application of all project management technologies as required for assigned projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to successfully communicate with architects, contractors, client’s representatives, and team members
  • Ability to develop and cultivate business relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • A working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, scheduling and process as they relate to corporate real estate
  • Flexibility with work hours and travel as needed
  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and MS Project software
  • Apply knowledge of battery technologies, EV charging systems, and automotive manufacturing processes to inform project decisions and requirements. 
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in battery EV charging, or automotive manufacturing projects.
  • Experience with battery manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies, including an awareness of health and safety considerations specific to battery production facilities.
  • Proficient in guiding designs and optimizing battery manufacturing facilities, including knowledge of space planning, utility requirements, assembly line setup, and equipment positioning.
  • Proficient in industry-specific codes, regulations, and standards related to battery manufacturing, such as building codes, environmental requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and equipment commonly used in battery manufacturing facilities, including power distribution, backup systems, and controls systems
  • Experience with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, particularly those necessary to maintain specific temperature and humidity conditions required for battery manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with electrical system, circuits, and components is crucial for designing and implementing EV infrastructure.
  • Proficient in EV components, such as batteries, motors, power electronics and charging systems, is essential understanding their functionalities and integration within the vehicle.
  • Proficient with relevant safety and compliance regulations, such as the National Electrical Code (NEC) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards
  • Experience with renewable energy systems and their integration with EV infrastructure, such as solar panels and energy storage, is beneficial in creating sustainable and efficient charging solutions
  • Experience with automotive manufacturing processes, facility requirements, and industry-specific regulations and standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Prior experience managing and leading others is an advantage.
    • Lead the team of project managers, making sure each can effectively manage staff members
    • Create special teams to work on assignments and provide them with instructions
    • Oversee operations, making adjustments to maximize daily efficiency
    • Answer inquiries about project expectations, deadlines and guidelines clearly and accurately
