Job Description:

The position is within Aerostack GmbH, a Joint Venture between Airbus and an automotive company, part of the Airbus strategy to accelerate Zero Emission Aircraft development and build competences and skills in the technology domain.


In order to support the team in Taufkirchen/ Ottobrunn, a vacancy for a Fuel Cell Engineer - CAD Design (d/f/m) has arisen at Aerostack GmbH.


The job holder reports operationally and functionally to the Head of Mechanical Design.


Main Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Taking a leading role by supporting the stack development on all CAD topics as well as training and role assignment for the design team

  • Develop and Design the fuel cell stack assembly and components together with the mechanical design team respecting appropriate design to manufacture (DtM) approaches valid for fuel cell stacks/components

  • Develop and design the jigs and devices for testing and manufacturing

  • Prepare stack specification documents together with the stack design team

  • Coordinate the organization of the CAD system including data management and linked documentation

  • Design of bipolar plates, sealing systems, stack compression systems, current collectors, etc. to support the component responsible engineers

  •  Responsibility for designing the complete stack assembly with focus on 3D models, mechanical drawings and their related bill of materials

  • Work out initial mechanical analysis (mechanical, fluid mechanical, thermal and electrical)

  • Examine and consider required aeronautic standards and processes, in particular quality and safety items

  • Responsible for Change Management in all design related tasks

  • Take an active part at D-FMEAs and P-FMEAs

Required Skills:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or similar

  • Several years of professional experience in product development/design, experience in fuel cell or battery applications would be a benefit

  • In-depth know how of manufacturing technologies, rapid prototyping, light weight solutions and development of jigs/devices

  • Professional in applying CAD Programs, in particular 3DX or CATIA V6 and being well skilled by managed tolerance concepts and documentation tools

  • Ideally experience in fuel cell technology and fuel cell stack development

  • Experience in the structural simulation of mechanical components is a plus

  • Pragmatic mindset, ambition for simplicity and fair team player

  • Capability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment

  • Fluency in English as well as basic German language skills
