As a Component Responsible Engineer Bipolar Plate (m/f/d) for Aerostack GmbH, based in Taufkirchen, Munich, you will have the chance to work with a highly motivated team working in an exciting and fast-paced environment.

We are looking for a skilled engineer to develop and institute design and manufacturing methodology for our fuel cell bipolar plates within the mechanical design team. As the CRE for the bipolar plate, you will be responsible for all aspects of this fuel cell stack core component, ranging from the qualification of potential materials and manufacturing methods over the component design to recycling considerations.

Main Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Develop bipolar plates for fuel cell stacks according to aeronautical requirements
    • Derive appropriate component specification from stack specifications
    • Evaluate qualification data for substrate materials and coatings
    • Define and optimize the target geometries in collaboration with the Cell Architect and other disciplines
    • Conduct or evaluate structural analyses of the bipolar plate under the relevant loads in the fuel cell stack
    • Interpret the results of sheet forming simulations and forming trials
    • Support the design of the manufacturing tools
    • Take part in the definition of the tolerance chain
    • Define the critical design parameters for the design verification
    • Support the design verification process
    • Document the design process in design rationales
  • Manage the manufacturing activities for your component within the design team
  • Be the focal point for all bipolar plate related topics
  • Support the installation and refinement of the stack development process
  • Coordinate and support preparation of drawings incl. bills of material
  • Conduct/coordinate patent and literature research on fuel cell bipolar plates
  • Global supplier support and contact point for all component related materials
  • Develop, order and verify functional samples/ prototypes

Required Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences or a similar field of study
  • Experience with sheet metal manufacturing methods like stretch forming in industry or in a PhD thesis
  • A solid understanding of fluid dynamics would be advantageous
  • Experience with fuel cell or electrolyser technology is beneficial
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control procedures
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Interested to work in an energetic, multi-functional and multinational team
  • Business fluent English language skills, German language skills would be a plus
