Field Service Engineer

Please note: this role will initially be on an Airbus UK permanent contract but will transfer over to Babcock International effective from 1 March 2024. More information will be provided to you during the screening process. 

LOCATION: This role can be based from any of the following 3 sites: Stevenage, Portsmouth or Corsham (Chippenham) – Open to other locations moving forward as long flexibility to travel is available

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK Security Clearance at the highest level - DV

We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join a welcoming team of 10, servicing and fixing communications equipment aboard ships. You will be usually working on UK docked ships, however you will occasionally be required abroad and working on a ship at sea.

The team provides 24/7/365 telephone and worldwide field support – so flexibility within the role is key.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM

  • To provide on/off site Field Engineering support, at short notice, to all of the Maritime / Remote Terminals which are under our contract
  • There is a requirement for the Field Service Engineer to travel to customer sites around the world - Condo training will be provided
  • Supervision of sub-contract staff on installation work
  • System fault finding, system testing and commissioning on subjects from data to RF including IP/TCIP techniques, Voice over IP function, data router switches, Coax switches, multiplexers, data exchanges, Passport switch and lower level crypto
  • Provide out of working hours telephone support
  • In territory field support

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience in a Military Field Service and support environment
  • Experience of Satellite Communications - Technical knowledge of satellite ground stations and satellite terminal systems
  • RF and Baseband knowledge
  • Modem Functions and techniques
  • HND in Electronics or Communications Engineering (or equivalent)
  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Qualified
  • Extensive experience of test and repair activities within a complex military environment or equivalent in the following engineering disciplines:-
  • RF Systems (Ka, X Band)
  • IT and Network Engineering
  • Baseband Systems (IP and ATM)
  • Full and clean UK Driving Licence
