Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a
Lead Systems Engineer for Moon Missions (d/f/m)
Orion is NASA's next spacecraft to send humans further into space than ever before, beyond the Moon and even to Mars. The European Service Module (ESM) is Airbus' contribution to this ambitious program. The ESM provides electricity, water, oxygen and nitrogen as well as navigation and temperature control. Moreover, the Orion ESM contains one of the most complex propulsion subsystems ever built in Europe. The 1st ESM just finalized very successfully the NASA Artemis 1 moon mission. With the 2nd ESM, which will fly humans to the Moon, Airbus DS builds the first 'human transport rated' vehicle in Europe, maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Airbus DS is under contract with ESA and will deliver the European Service Models up to Artemis-6.
Further Airbus DS has been contracted by ESA for a study of an European Large Lunar Lander (EL3) Mission with the overall target to launch the EL3 Mission to the Moon in 2029.

Your tasks and responsibilities
Lead the overall spacecraft design, development and qualification/certification of a product (or a family of products) to satisfy customer and regulatory requirements and program cost and schedule needs
Being responsible for technical definition, engineering deliverables, schedule, cost, quality and risk management aspects up to final customer acceptance
Define system development logic consistent with development assurance level
Take all engineering decisions necessary for efficient development and production, on time delivery and customer acceptance for operation
Perform trade-off analysis in order to select the best system architecture fulfilling system/product
Requirements design and define possible architectures considering the functions and other requirements (constraints)
Lead verification of the system/product implementation and its interfaces, on the real or virtual system
Define ad-hoc development mitigation activities with regard to development risk
Lead impact analysis of any design change request during the entire product lifecycle
Desired skills and qualifications
Technical Master Degree
Experience in aerospace and in working with ESA and NASA highly appreciated
Ability to lead a large multi-national team organization in a complex project environment
Strong experience in mission and safety critical applications
Work style characterized by autonomy, initiative, cooperation collaboration
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and social competence
Business fluent in English and German
This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
