ntroduction

Initial Weight estimation based on the Top Level Aircraft Requirements, hereon referred to as TLAR, is one of the key points to begin with the design of any aircraft. A quick and accurate estimation at the initial stages allows to achieve optimal design solution in fewer steps. This has more relevance in a setup like DOE, i.e, Design of Experiments, where the idea is to explore the complete design space and choose the best solution.

Motivation

At present we have few methods to estimate aircrafts systems and component weight and its distribution , but they are not sufficient to capture Inertia efficiently.

Hence it is essential to develop weight distribution functions for aircraft systems and components to get correct estimate of OWE weight and CG at early phase of aircraft development , which is required for design space exploration to help finalizing aircraft design configuration efficiently 

Problem Statement

To create top-level weight estimation functions for aircraft components and systems, to be used in early design stages of the aircraft.

Legacy weight functions 

Legacy aircraft data 

Aircraft master geometry 

Expectation/Output

At the end of this exercise, the result should be in the form of weight estimation functions that provide the weight, based on the input parameters, for any given aircraft concept in its initial design phases.

Validation

Weight function results should closely match with the real aircraft components and systems
