COMPLETE Senior Robotics Software Engineer - Bangalore Area

Job Description:

The job holder will be supporting the Head of Perception, Planification & Control and be the technical leader of a development team based in Bangalore specialized in Perception, Planification and Control as part of the overall Airbus Robotics & Automation Roadmap. Objective is to develop and deliver mature and innovative techno bricks (software & hardware) to be integrated into our Industrial Systems. These technologies will be developed in strong collaboration with the wider Robotics ecosystem as well as the other technology teams (e.g. DDMS, CRT, Engineering, etc). The scope includes short term technology bricks as well as long term innovation and research. The priority focus includes development and delivering breakthrough bricks for Perception, Planification & Control to the 4 flagship projects defined by the Robotics & Automation Transformation Programme:

Perception driven assembly robots Automated Paint Shop for fuselage End to end automatic customer inspection system Auto Rigging                    

                            

Accountabilities

• The job holder is to support the techno roadmap for the development of the missing techno bricks concerning Perception, Planification & Control requested for Aircraft Industrial Systems such as:

Assembly: Develop bricks for perception driven assembly robots to secure the automation of the assembly of our next generations aircrafts. Painting: Implement bricks requested for an Automated PaintShop automated painting & decoration of the whole aircraft. Inspection: Contribute to the development of inspection devices for an end to end customer inspection of external surfaces. Composite: Prepare composite production automation for a high rate programme.

• Collaborate with architect and product owner to get the requirements through detailed technical discussions and scoping meetings

• Build and aligned a Robotics Software Roadmap with the relevant stakeholders

• Define the software architecture to be used for the development of the requested techno bricks

• Lead a tech team in charge of the development of the requested bricks

• Explore and study the new product development areas driven by strategic understanding of customer landscape

Other dimensions relevant to the position:

• Local team on Airbus India, Bangalore sites, strong technical and business background

• Education Requirements:

  • PhD thesis in Robotics or Perception or Control Engineering or related field

  • 10+ years of successful experience in Robotics in multinational context

  • Strong programming skills and Solid C++, Python coding

  • Experience with learning-driven computer vision, 3D point cloud processing, SLAM, or related subjects

  • Solid data structures, algorithms and software design

  • 2D image processing and related libraries (OpenCV)

  • 3D sensor processing and related libraries (PCL)

  • Experience training deep convolutional neural networks

  • Experience with sensors and hardware

Main activities

• Working with specification and designing the products

• Work closely with robotic development engineering teams to support the development techno bricks for Perception, Planification & Control from concept to production level.

• Support HO Head of Perception, Planification & Control of ensuring the local team to develop the technologies from R&T to industrialisation

• Define jointly with the Ho Perception, Planification & Control the software roadmap to develop the requested techno bricks in due time : ordered features, targeted performances, test campaigns, release policy

• Lead a technical team of developers on a daily basis to code, build, document, test and commission the requested techno bricks

• Manage the DevOps tool chain to ensure streamline collaboration with the European part of the team

• Collaborate actively with academic research institutes and industrial partners

Outputs

The jobholder will be responsible for delivering

Streamlined collaboration between European and Indian team to ensure smooth operation and activity Development, documentation, testing and validation of the requested techno bricks Commissioning and advanced maintenance of the software bricks that have been developed to ensure the functionalities are consistent with the customer’s needs.

The jobholder reports to Head of Perception, Planification & Control  and is part of governance
