Job Summary

Under the general direction and with limited supervision, assist in planning, managing, implementing, supervising and performing daily Security and Safety operations for Beaumont Health. This includes responsibility for all assigned buildings, property, equipment, and officers. Armed security supervisor who supervises the daily operations of the shift in the absence of the Lieutenant, the incumbent will have the capacity of decision maker even when the lieutenant is on duty. Assist in establishing standards of performance, staffing patterns, and department policies and procedures. This position may require Public Act 330 certification and will have the ability to arrest for misdemeanors offenses and will be required to complete the Michigan State Police PA330 certification requirements.


Essential Functions

  • Coordinate response by security personnel to incoming request and situations as they occur.
  • Establish specific work goals or quantitative and qualitative standards to be achieved by subordinates.
  • Accepts and performs various duties at assigned post and provides assistance to patients, visitor and employees. Enforce rules, regulations and policies of the hospital.
  • Patrol campus on foot and in vehicle (or on bike as assigned). Officer assistance as unlocking doors inside or doing motor assist outside, is ever observant to suspicious activities and security violations.
  • Diligently and appropriately utilize Police Authority to arrest for both felonies and misdemeanors on Beaumont Health Property under Michigan Law (PA 330).
  • Diligently and appropriately utilize citation / ticket writing and ordinance enforcement authority under Michigan Law (PA 330) and local city ordinances.
  • Works in the Security Operations Center monitoring phones, alarm, cameras and radio traffic.
  • Supervise assigned staff to ensure quality of work.
  • Attend department supervisor meetings, organizes shift meetings and speaks at other departments’ staff meeting/in services.
  • Maintain commitment to maintaining policies and procedures of the department, campus, and Beaumont Health.
  • Perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer as needed or as assigned.
  • Schedule the work of security officers based on availability of personnel, workload and employee preference, maintains departmental personnel records regarding payroll and attendance.
  • Trains, appraises, evaluates and handles grievances, takes disciplinary action if appropriate and makes authoritative recommendations regarding the retention of probationary employees.
  • Recommends new or revised policies and procedures.
  • Conducts investigations as required, including alleged misconduct by Security Personnel.
  • Ensures incidents or situations are properly recorded and reported to appropriate individuals or departments.
  • Assists in gathering and preparing statistical data and reports pertaining to incidents and services.
  • Reviews security reports and/or incidents on a daily basis in order to inform officers of any relevant information prior to the start of their shift.
  • Assumes responsibility for department equipment issued to Security Officers and ensures loss or damage of all equipment is reported appropriately.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a teamwork philosophy within and between departments.
  • Assist Emergency Department staff with Hazmat/ Decontamination procedures to include donning and doffing of PAPR’s/ Tyvek suits as well as providing security and keeping order in the decontamination area.
  • Assist nursing staff with physical management/ restraint of patients as ordered by a physician.
  • In dealing with non-patient aggressors, use defensive tactics and approved MCOLES force continuum if necessary to safeguard lives and well-being of staff, patients, and visitors.
  • May provide CPR/ first aid in the event of a medical emergency on the grounds or in common areas until trained medical staff can arrive from the Emergency Department (acute care) or Local Fire Department (ambulatory) as per EMTALA law.
  • Use proactive non-violent verbal de-escalation skills to neutralize volatile situations involving patients, staff, and visitors without escalating the event into a violent incident.

Qualifications
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associate's Degree Criminal Justice
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree Criminal Justice
  • 2 years of relevant experience 2 years in a public or proprietary security organization, military security experience as part of the armed forces, or 2 years public police experience. Required
  • Healthcare Supervisory/Leadership experience Preferred
  • LIC-Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Be insurable under the Hospital liability insurance guidelines. Upon Hire required
  • LIC-MI Commission on Law Enforcement (MCOLES) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Qualifying every six months Upon Hire required
