- Ensures the continuous and timely availability of urgent care, emergency, inpatient, and operative services to patients and families.
- Continuously monitors daily operations by integrating data from electronic systems, personal communication, and physical unit rounds to assure patient care effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction.
- Ensures the safety and quality of patient care by allocating and redirecting resources, considering care demands related to acuity, patient and unit requirements and staff skill mix.
- Coordinates the routine flow of scheduled, direct, and emergency patient admissions to efficiently place patients in the appropriate care location, maximize capacity, improve satisfaction of patients, families and referring providers.
- Coordinates the organizational response during times of high census: collaborating with administrators and nursing directors, the Emergency Department, Surgery Department, Critical Care, Cath Lab and Inpatient Nursing Units.
- Promotes communication at all levels.
- Collaborates with care management, the medical staff, and the interdisciplinary team to promote smooth, timely, and efficient patient throughput.
- Upholds professional standards of care by demonstrating leadership skills and a high level of clinical competency while striving to achieve the system Mission and Vision.
- Required Bachelor's Degree in nursing.
- Preferred Master's Degree
- Required Completion of a Nurse Executive Council approved leadership development educational program within 1 year of position entry.
- 3 years of relevant experience clinical nursing experience. Required
- 1 year of relevant experience formal nursing leadership experience required for external applicants. Required
- 1 year of relevant experience demonstrated informal leadership experience required for internal applicants, may include but are not limited to: Charge Lead Nurse, Charge Nurse responsibilities, leadership on behalf of unit/site/system at Shared Governance Council, etc. Required
