What you’ll be doing
Role Overview
A typical challenge may start with a depot on a new path to electrification. We may help with up-front studies to define what infrastructure is needed, or deploy to an existing setup, assessing available site energy, accounting for existing loads, BESS, solar and local energy mechanisms. We may perform site audits and interoperability tests, t define appropriate hardware limits and deploy our software to most effectively maximise charging energy in live operation.
We remain connected to depots, during their operation, working with both charger and vehicle partners to ensure vehicles charge reliably, as well as providing recommendations on how to manage energy most efficiently on these sites. We perform root cause analysis and provide appropriate data to help customers fix issues and improve.
We are looking for a Project Manager to join the Operations Team. The role is rooted in project management but will be varied: supporting deployments, bids, site activity, service improvement and customer-facing technical understanding.
This would suit someone early-career or developing in project management, with curiosity, a technical mindset and confidence working across teams. You do not need deep specialism, but should enjoy understanding systems, challenging logic and moving work forward.
We want someone practical, enthusiastic, quick to learn, constructively challenging and comfortable balancing varied activities.
The role will also be responsible for:
- Support customer project delivery, developing to own workstreams with senior support.
- Coordinate plans, actions, site readiness, customer packs, handovers and lessons learned.
- Support site activity with technical, electrical and service specialists, keeping actions, evidence and follow-up clear.
- Prepare bid and new-scope inputs: assumptions, risks, dependencies, lessons learned and evidence.
- Build operational understanding of charging faults, service issues and customer context.
- Improve service efficiency using AI tools, templates, trackers, repeatable processes and clearer reporting.
- Support governance, action tracking, stakeholder preparation, communication and escalation.
- Capture project learning for product, service, partner integration and future solution development.
- Work across Programme, Service Delivery, Product, Data Science, Commercial, Sales and Hitachi Energy teams.
- Promote safe site activity through visit planning, hazard awareness, readiness checks and escalation routes.
What you will get involved in
- Fleet electrification projects, including travel to assess and onboard bus and commercial vehicle depots.
- Charge management software, battery analysis, recommendations and customer service performance.
- Energy topics such as site capacity, BESS, solar, variable loads and future optimisation opportunities.
- Partner integrations across the wider eMobility ecosystem.
- Bid development, customer problem-solving and new-scope exploration.
- Live service learning, including why charging sessions succeed, fail or underperform.
- AI and automation to improve delivery and service processes, including battery and operational analysis.
What you will bring to the team
We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work in the Hitachi Office (Office Address: Level 14 Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, London EC2A 2EW)
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:
Education and Experience
- The ideal candidate will bring a number of the following:
- Interest in project delivery, operations, technology, engineering, energy, transport or sustainability.
- A technical mindset: able to understand systems, ask thoughtful questions and translate complexity into clear actions.
- Confident communicator across customers, technical experts and commercial colleagues.
- A practical, organised approach to actions, risks, dependencies, evidence and follow-up.
- Curiosity to learn across software, infrastructure, customer operations and service performance.
- Willingness to get involved in varied work rather than staying in a narrow lane.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 tools, with interest in using Copilot, AI tools or automation to improve quality and efficiency.
- Relevant degree, apprenticeship, placement year or early-career experience.
- Project, customer delivery, systems or engineering experience helpful; potential and attitude matter.
What success looks like
- You own smaller projects and workstreams and keep them moving without losing detail.
- You ensure customer, internal and site actions are clear, tracked and followed through.
- You ensure new-bid and new-scope inputs are structured, evidenced and easy to review.
- You input to repeatable, efficient service and delivery processes.
- You build technical and operational confidence, whilst escalating decisions appropriately.
- You communicate clearly and proactively, keeping customers, partners and internal teams aligned on actions, risks and next steps.
- You bring energy, curiosity and constructive challenge to the team.
Equal opportunities
We are proud to say we are an equal opportunity employer and welcome all applicants for employment without discrimination for age, disability, gender, marriage & civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. If, like us, you are pioneering, innovative and motivated to build a zero-carbon transportation future, accelerating the world’s transition to greener, more efficient mobility, please get in touch.
