Job Description
The AWS Public Policy team is shaping the future of data center power supply and pioneering carbon free energy procurement through engagement with policymakers, grid operators, and other stakeholders.
We are looking for a policy professional who is well connected and ready to represent AWS before state policymakers on energy and infrastructure policy across the western United States. You bring deep knowledge of energy regulatory, legislative, and wholesale electric market policy as it affects large electricity buyers and customers. You're energized by the chance to shape grid policy in statehouses and before utility regulators, and you're eager to contribute to broader team efforts on related issues at the federal level.
Key job responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of advocacy strategies that advance AWS energy policy priorities in partnership with senior team members.
- Engage government entities such as the Bonneville Power Administration, CAISO, state legislative committees of jurisdiction, state utility regulators, and other energy industry stakeholders throughout the western United States.
- Monitor and analyze policy and regulatory developments, identifying emerging opportunities and risks and surfacing them to internal teams and leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, regulators, industry associations, and alliance partners to advance AWS advocacy positions.
- Craft policy submissions, position papers, talking points, and other advocacy collateral; contribute to business review documents including MBRs and QBRs.
- Provide policy guidance and analysis to internal business partners to inform their planning and decision making.
- Travel required based on business need
A day in the life
On any given day you might be tracking a proposed state utility regulation, preparing a briefing memo for internal leadership, or meeting with a state energy commission staffer to discuss grid reliability issues. You'll collaborate closely with cross functional teammates across Public Policy, Legal, and the AWS energy procurement team, synthesizing technical and political insights into clear recommendations. Some weeks involve travel to state capitols, industry conferences, or stakeholder forums across the western US.
About the team
The AWS Public Policy team works at the intersection of technology and government, advocating for policies that support AWS infrastructure growth while advancing clean energy goals. The team operates across federal and state jurisdictions, and this role focuses specifically on the western US energy landscape. You'll join a collegial group that values subject matter depth, creative problem solving, and the ability to translate complex regulatory environments into actionable business guidance.
