Job Description

The Role

Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV is looking for innovators who thrive in tough challenges and are passionate about tackling meaningful work that will shape the future of the automotive industry. This isn’t a role for those looking for an easy path—it’s for those who embrace change, push through obstacles, and take ownership of complex problems. While there will be long days and moments that test your resilience, you’ll find purpose in your work, flexibility to prioritize your family, and the support of a people-first culture. If you’re ready to grow, thrive, and make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

The GM Automotive Manufacturing Electrical College (AMEC) Cohort is a one-year development and placement program designed to prepare employees for future Launch Electrical Team roles at GM manufacturing facilities across North America. Participants will complete a structured combination of classroom learning, hands-on plant experience, and supplier visits before being placed into an electrical manufacturing role at a GM plant. Relocation assistance will be provided for the assigned placement. This is a three-year program.

AMEC is an immersive training program that builds the technical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills required to support electrical quality, launch readiness, and manufacturing performance. During the one-year program, participants will gain exposure to the core Launch Electrical disciplines represented by the AMEC pathway, including electrical process and in-process testers, software and module breakpoint coordination, wiring, launch electrical coordination, and electrical diagnostics.

Following successful completion of the program, participants will be placed in a role aligned to their capabilities and business needs at one of GM’s vehicle assembly or related manufacturing facilities in North America. The AMEC experience provides on-the-job preparation before placement so participants can contribute effectively to plant launch and electrical quality objectives.

  • Build working knowledge of the Electrical Bill of Operations (BoO), GM manufacturing systems, supporting BIQ4 deliverables, and electrical launch standards.
  • Participate in rotations, projects, and practical assignments spanning electrical process coordination, in-process tester development and validation, software and module breakpoint coordination, wiring and harness manufacturing, electrical launch coordination, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Work as part of an integrated Electrical Team with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering Vehicle Systems (MEVs), and supplier partners to solve internal and external quality problems.
  • Support launch readiness activities, including virtual, prototype, and validation builds; process reviews; wiring harness assessments; disconnect workshops; and other activities required to prepare the plant for production.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods to electrical process, wiring, software, module, tester, end-of-line, and vehicle repair issues, developing actionable items and supporting corrective action plans.
  • Develop the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear actions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Learn and apply the tools, processes, and reporting systems used to improve Electrical First Time Quality (EFTQ), plant throughput, programming performance, and warranty-related outcomes.
  • Demonstrate readiness for placement into a Launch Electrical Team role at a GM manufacturing facility in North America upon successful completion of AMEC.
  • Relocate to the assigned GM plant as required; relocation assistance will be provided for the post-program placement.
