Amazonでは、環境に配慮した新たな梱包資材の開発・導入を進めています。これを担うオペレーション技術統括本部（JCFS: Japan Customer Fulfillment Solutions）のCustomer Packaging Experience（CPEX）部門では、事業の成長と、お客様の購入体験の保護、そして環境・サステナビリティへの貢献を同時に実現する梱包イノベーション（新しい梱包資材の設計・開発）を推進しており、体制強化のため新たなメンバーを募集しています。

近年、当日配送のGrocery（食品・日用品）ECサービスが急速に拡大しており、新しい業態特有の商品・配送形態に対応した梱包資材の開発リソースの確保が急務となっています。本ポジションは、こうしたGrocery配送サービスの拡大に伴う資材開発リソースを確保・強化するために新設された枠であり、拡大するビジネスを支える新たなメンバーを募集しています。

シニア パッケージエンジニアは、「配送・資材コストの低減」「お客様の購入体験」「環境配慮」の3つを両立できる新しい梱包資材の設計・開発や、既存資材のデザイン見直しを担当します。資材メーカー（サプライヤー）との折衝・共同開発や、実際に梱包作業を行う物流現場のメンバーとの対話を通じて、導入までを一貫してマネジメントします。Amazonはさまざまな形状・サイズの商品を扱い、多くの物流拠点で梱包資材を使用しているため、求められる要件は日々変化します。既成概念にとらわれず、新しいアイデアを形にするプロジェクトを推進していただきます。Amazonで使用する梱包資材の設計・開発・導入に責任を持ち、複数の大規模プロジェクトを主体的に管理します。

Amazon is committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, and Amazon Japan is looking for a technically strong Senior Package Engineer to help achieve this goal within the JCFS (Japan Customer Fulfillment Solutions) team in Tokyo. In the Customer Packaging Experience (CPEX) organization, you will design, develop, and roll out packaging materials that balance business needs, customer experience, and sustainability, working closely with internal teams and external packaging suppliers.
With the rapid growth of same-day grocery (food and daily-goods) e-commerce services, securing additional packaging-development resources for the unique products and delivery formats these new businesses require has become a priority. This position has been newly created to secure and strengthen packaging-development capacity as these grocery delivery services expand.

As a Senior Package Engineer, you will design new packaging or improve existing designs based on business requirements, customer feedback, and our sustainability goals, in cooperation with packaging suppliers, your manager, and team members. You will lead material-strength testing, prototype verification, hands-on efficiency studies at fulfillment sites, and validation of packaging behavior on automated handling and conveyor lines, and you will negotiate with and guide suppliers for joint development.
Not everything on a project goes as planned, so you are expected to solve unexpected problems and ask for support from the team and leaders whenever needed. Your results will be shared with Japan and global leadership through regular business reviews. Because packaging has a wide influence on Amazon’s e-commerce business, close collaboration with internal teams (fulfillment operations, supply chain, finance, delivery, engineering) and external partners (vendors, marketplace sellers, and packaging suppliers) is essential.

The CPEX mission is to delight customers by advancing packaging innovations that reduce waste, cost, and carbon emissions. Our programs range from simplified shipping (sending orders in the product’s own box, without extra Amazon packaging) and lighter paper-based packaging, to right-sizing packaging to customer order dimensions and adopting more sustainable materials. The Package Design & Development team designs new packaging to balance business, sustainability, and customer experience, and deploys it in the field.


Key job responsibilities
• Amazonで使用する梱包資材の設計・開発・導入に責任を持ち、マネージャーが描く方針に沿って、優先度の高い梱包施策の開発・導入をリードします。
• 資材メーカーとの交渉・技術指導・共同開発、試作品の検証、資材の強度評価、梱包作業の効率（工数）検証、物流現場の搬送・自動化ライン上での不具合検証と解決を行います。
• データ分析担当や他部門と連携し、CO2やプラスチックの削減につながる機会を見つけ、新技術のアイデアを提案します。中長期を見据えた新規資材の先行開発も担います。
• 複数の大規模プロジェクトを主体的に管理し、若手メンバーの指導・育成を行います。成果は定量的に評価し、社内外の関係者と共有・合意を図り、結果に責任を持ちます。

• Own the design, development, and rollout of packaging used across Amazon, leading high-priority packaging initiatives aligned with your manager’s direction.
• Negotiate with and guide suppliers for joint development; verify prototypes; evaluate material strength; run packing-efficiency studies; and validate and resolve issues on automated handling and conveyor lines.
• Directly manage multiple large-scale projects and coach junior members, and report key results clearly and on time to internal and external stakeholders.
• Report to the CPEX Manager within JCFS, while serving as a point of contact for packaging and technology teams in Japan and across global regions.

A Senior Package Engineer divides time between desk work (data analysis, design specifications, supplier negotiation, and program documents) and the field (visiting fulfillment sites for prototype verification, material-strength testing, and line validation), driving packaging innovation that balances cost, customer experience, and sustainability.

Basic Qualifications:

- 5+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project) at an advanced level
- Experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, and field execution through launch readiness and go-live phases

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
- Experience working with and managing third party vendors
- Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing
