Job Description

Want to define the next generation of financial record keeping products for Amazon businesses? Excited to build products that manage billions of dollars of transactions? Ready to rise to the challenge of enabling an ever-growing set of businesses across the company looking for automation of their accounting models?

The Financial Record Keeping (FRK) organization within Digital Acceleration is reimagining accounting automation with AI: simplifying and speeding up end-to-end accounting automation through a new architecture and AI augmented accounting automation capabilities. As a Software Development Manager, you will independently lead a team of software engineers while shaping the technical direction of next-generation financial automation programs. You will influence architecture decisions across multiple teams, partner with business stakeholders, and drive product direction in a space where complex problems meet real customer impact. If you enjoy working through ambiguity, defining strategic paths, and building systems at massive scale using AWS and big data technologies, this is the role for you.

Key job responsibilities
- You will define and manage a product roadmap to build specialized AI tools to manage accounting automation for Amazon.
- Define and drive the technical vision and architectural direction for financial record keeping systems that support Amazon's digital businesses at scale.
- Lead and grow an inclusive team of software development engineers — recruit top talent, coach and develop engineers at multiple levels, and create an environment where the team delivers successfully and sustainably.
- Contribute to system design discussions, evaluate tradeoffs across scalability, maintainability, and performance, and guide your team through deep-dive troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners — including product management, peer engineering teams, and business stakeholders — to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and deliver cohesive solutions.
- Establish operational excellence practices, publish meaningful metrics, and build mechanisms that improve software quality, reduce repeated work, and enhance the customer experience over time.

A day in the life
Your morning might start with a design review where your engineers walk through a proposed architecture for a new accounting automation service, and you help the team pressure-test assumptions and tradeoffs. After that, you join a cross-team sync with product and business partners to align on upcoming roadmap priorities. In the afternoon, you spend time in a one-on-one with a direct report, discussing their career growth plan and identifying stretch opportunities. Later, you review operational metrics for your services and work with the team to triage an emerging trend before it becomes a customer-facing issue.

About the team
The Digital Acceleration FRK team builds the financial record keeping systems that power Kindle eBooks, Prime Video, Amazon Appstore, Amazon Music, Digital Software and Video Games, and a growing list of Amazon's digital businesses. We process billions of transactions each year and our work directly enables these businesses to scale worldwide.

Our team is a mix of software engineers, technical program managers, and product partners who collaborate closely to reimagine how accounting automation works at Amazon's scale. We are focused on building a new architecture that will serve as the foundation for financial automation across digital commerce for years to come — and we are looking for a leader who is excited to help shape that future.

Basic Qualifications:

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 3+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 3+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
