Job Description
Want to build systems where machine learning and AI agents decide, in real time, which customers Amazon reaches across its marketing channels? The Predictive Targeting team is reinventing how Amazon targets its marketing as an AI-native, self-improving system — and we need a strong Software Development Engineer II to help build it.
Today a marketer hand-picks audiences with manual rules and makes dozens of undocumented judgment calls to get there. We are replacing that with an agentic workflow: a marketer describes a goal in plain language, and the system compiles it step by step and auditably into a scored, measurable customer audience, then closes the loop by measuring live results, learning what worked, and improving the next run.
You will own the engineering behind that loop: distributed services and agent tooling that turn an objective into an audience, score it, and keep refining it. The platform runs worldwide across more than a dozen marketplaces on customer signals refreshed daily, and must start optimizing at day 1 of a campaign, under guardrails that protect the customer experience.
As an SDE II you will own features end to end, from design through production and on-call, make smart trade-offs in an ambiguous and fast-moving space, and raise the bar for the engineers around you. You thrive without a fully specified problem, you sweat the details at scale, and you want your code to move a real business metric.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design and build innovative GenAI and agentic solutions in a large distributed computing environment, and help lead fundamental changes in how marketing targeting works.
- Create scalable solutions that run machine-learning predictions and agent-driven decisions on distributed systems, at incredible scale and speed.
- Build distributed storage, indexing, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low-cost, and easy to operate.
- Turn broadly defined, ambiguous problems into the right technical solutions — and ship the code behind them.
- Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software, owning features end to end from design through production and on-call.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
