Job Description
Here at Amazon, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of diversity and inclusion of our teams within the organization.
How do you get items to customers quickly, cost-effectively, and—most importantly—safely, in less than an hour? And how do you do it in a way that can scale? Our teams of hundreds of scientists, engineers, aerospace professionals, and futurists have been working hard to do just that! We are delivering to customers, and are excited for what’s to come. Check out more information about Prime Air on the About Amazon blog (https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/transportation/amazon-prime-air-delivery-drone-reveal-photos).
If you are seeking an iterative environment where you can drive innovation, apply state-of-the-art technologies to solve real world delivery challenges, and provide benefits to customers, Prime Air is the place for you.
Come work on the Amazon Prime Air Team!
Amazon Prime Air is seeking an experienced infrastructure and launch leader to roll out our drone delivery sites across Europe, and to make each launch faster than the last. Prime Air sites operate inside or alongside existing Amazon fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations. You will lead the team that takes each site from test fit and design through build, installation and launch, own the European site pipeline and launch forecast, and set and drive the targets for how quickly and cost-effectively we launch. You will be Prime Air’s senior partner to host site leaders and to Amazon’s regional operations and engineering and construction leadership, and you will build the standards, playbooks and mechanisms that let us launch multiple sites a year across several countries. Prime Air is expanding drone delivery across Europe, and site delivery is on the critical path for every new site.
Key job responsibilities
Own the European site infrastructure and launch program: the site pipeline, the launch forecast, and delivery of every site from test fit to launch readiness
Own the master programme schedule across the European site pipeline, integrating design, build and launch milestones for every site
Set targets for time-to-launch and cost per site, and drive them down site by site through standardisation, parallel workstreams and better mechanisms
Lead, develop and grow a team of Expansion Program Managers working across the UK and the EU
Own engagement with host sites, and hold Prime Air’s senior relationships with regional operations leadership and with Amazon GES, Amazon’s in-house engineering and construction organisation, agreeing the approach, priorities and capacity for each site and across the network
Build and run the site prioritisation framework with the Head of Commercial Operations, weighing return, cost, time to launch and readiness, and use it to decide which candidate sites to launch and in what sequence
Own the business case and capital request for each site, working with Finance, host business lines and the Head of Commercial Operations, with the Expansion Program Managers providing the design, cost and schedule inputs, and present the investment decision to leadership
Be accountable for cost, scope and schedule across all sites, within the budget for Prime Air-specific site technology and infrastructure
Own the infrastructure inputs to annual and multi-year planning, including the launch gearing model, capital and operating budget, and headcount case
Own the European Prime Air site design standard and the test-fit and launch playbooks, and adapt them to each country’s building, planning and safety requirements
Chair launch readiness reviews and take the launch go/no-go decision for every site, and run the program mechanisms that give leadership visibility of the launch plan: risk and change control, and regular reporting, integrated with the regulatory, operations, engineering and safety plans
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field
- Experience in project and program management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience launching Amazon fulfilment centre, sort centre or delivery station sites, or working with Amazon GES
- Experience delivering sites or infrastructure in more than one European country
- Experience with aviation, airport or other regulated infrastructure
- Experience with site selection or network planning analysis
- Experience applying Lean or Six Sigma methods to launch or construction programs
- Fluency in a second European language in addition to English
