Job Description:

Position Summary

The Station Manager is responsible for the day-to-day performance their assigned New Jersey vehicle inspection station. This is a dedicated station assignment, not a traveling manager role, although travel within New Jersey may be required for meetings, training, or operational coverage.

The Station Manager leads inspection staff, maintains safe and compliant operations, with a heavy emphasis on customer service, manages lane flow and customer wait times, and ensures a professional experience for all customers. The manager is expected to maintain a visible presence in the lanes and direct traffic as part of the role. This position will be assigned to a station in the Southern Region of NJ

Essential Responsibilities

Station Operations, Safety, and Compliance

    • Oversee daily station operations, including lane readiness, traffic flow, inspection throughput, troubleshooting, and customer service.
    • Direct vehicles in the queue, balance lane workloads, and monitor performance in real time.
    • Demonstrate exceptional customer service, while mentoring staff to comply with Parsons’ customer service standards.
    • Maintain an active presence in the lanes to supervise work, coach employees, and address issues promptly.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable NJDOT, NJDEP, NJMVC, Parsons inspection procedures, and corporate health and safety requirements.
    • Confirm that lanes are ready for production, with necessary tools and materials available, work areas clean, and hazards addressed.
    • Follow established procedures for equipment startup, calibration, quality assurance and quality control, incident reporting, and investigations.
    • Report equipment and facility repair needs and maintain a safe, organized, professional station.

Team Leadership and Workforce Management

    • Set clear expectations for safety, work pace, accountability, and customer service; lead by example and foster a supportive work environment.
    • Conduct daily stand-ups with senior lane technicians to review performance, communicate priorities, and gather feedback.
    • Interview applicants; train, cross-train, coach, and evaluate employees.
    • Document performance and administer counseling or disciplinary processes fairly and consistently, in accordance with established procedures and the collective bargaining agreement.
    • Manage staffing, lane assignments, shifts, breaks, and vacation schedules while maintaining operational coverage and compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
    • Review expenses, timecards, and oversee payroll accuracy.

Customer Service and Station Controls

    • Promote courteous, effective interactions with New Jersey motorists, clients, coworkers, and other stakeholders.
    • Address customer concerns promptly and work to minimize wait times without compromising safety or inspection requirements.
    • Maintain accurate inspection decal records, safeguard controlled resources, and ensure the accuracy and security of sticker-related billing.
    • Manage supply ordering and station expenses responsibly.
    • Serve as the point of escalation for station issues and maintain productive relationships with NJMVIS departments, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and government agencies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • At least three years of management or supervisory experience.
    • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate a manual-transmission vehicle.
    • New Jersey inspector’s license, or the ability to obtain one through provided training. Successful completion of licensing requirements is a condition of continued employment.
    • Automotive and instrumentation aptitude preferred but not required.
    • Ability to complete required Parsons training.

Required Skills and Working Conditions

The successful candidate communicates clearly, resolves conflicts effectively, works independently, and leads with a customer service-oriented, accountable approach. General computer and office-application skills are required, as is the ability to apply established procedures and collective bargaining agreement requirements.

This is an active, on-site leadership role in an open-bay inspection environment. The Station Manager must be able to work in and around inspection lanes and outdoors in heat, cold, wind, and precipitation. Travel within New Jersey may be required as operational needs arise.
