Database Engineer - Bucharest | Thales Job

Location: Bucharest, Romania

As a member of the P&S Engineering Europe and Eurasia for Identity and Biometrics Solution business line, you will be responsible for the administration, monitoring and maintenance of database environments supporting customer solutions.

You will work closely with all Biometrics R&Ds based in Europe , as well as Europe Delivery and Support and Maintenance teams to ensure the availability, performance, security and reliability of databases throughout their lifecycle, from conception to operation, including customer onsite activities.

You will also participate in database installation, configuration, deployment, backup/recovery and troubleshooting activities, supporting both project delivery and operational environments.

Availability for travel abroad within Europe / Eurasia region

Specific responsibilities

• Install, configure and administer Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Monitor database availability, performance, health and capacity.
• Troubleshoot database incidents, connectivity issues and performance problems.
• Perform SQL and database performance tuning.
• Manage database users, roles, privileges and access controls.
• Perform and monitor database backup and recovery activities.
• Monitor database storage and growth.
• Perform database patching, upgrades and maintenance activities.
• Support High Availability and Disaster Recovery configurations.
• Provide technical expertise, technology watch.
• Automation of deployments / Devops technologies
• Repeating tasks automation
• Continuously improve and write procedures / reflex sheets for supervision and operation teams

Technical / Functional Skills

Operating Systems:

• Microsoft Windows Server, Linux/UNIX

Database Administration:

• Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB and Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL – intermediate level
• Apache Cassandra, MongoDB – basic – intermediate level
• Data persistence using  ElasticSearch and Apache Kakfa - basic – intermediate level
• Database installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting – advanced level
• Database capacity planning and storage management - advanced level

High Availability & Disaster Recovery:

• High Availability, clustering and database replication
• Disaster Recovery and backup strategies
• Understanding of RPO and RTO concepts
  

Storage & Infrastructure:

• SAN, NAS and database storage management
• Medium to advanced  understanding of CPU, memory, disk I/O and networking

Security:

• Database users, roles and privileges
• Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
• SSL/TLS and secure database connectivity
• CIS security benchmarks and database hardening

Monitoring & Automation:

• Database monitoring and performance diagnostic tools

• Basic Shell scripting and automation

Requested competencies / experience:

• 5 years experience in similar position
• Medium to advanced knowledge  of Linux and Windows OS
• General knowledge of web application
• ITIL basic concepts
• Agile methodology
• English fluent
• Virtualization knowledge : Docker, Vmware, Kubernetes is a plus.
• Network contexts Knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalling, VLAN, VPN…) medium knowledge
• Applications installations: install or  upgrade applications and provide associated documentation
