2027 Manufacturing Apprentice - Modern Apprenticeship in Manufacturing (Scotland)

 

Start Date:16th August 2027 (This is a mandatory requirement for college induction)

Salary: £24,000 per annum

Employee type: Permanent

Working Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 37 hours a week (9.25 hours Monday – Thursday)

About the Role

 

As a Manufacturing Technician Apprentice, you will develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours needed to become a confident and capable Manufacturing Technician.

Working as part of our Industry team, you will support the delivery of products and equipment solutions, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the build and manufacture of products
  • Undertaking product testing and validation activities
  • Assisting with engineering investigations and problem solving
  • Visiting customer sites, platforms and installations to support surveys, trials and system deployment where required
  • Working with experienced technicians on live projects

 

What You Will Learn

 

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will gain experience and knowledge in:

  • Professional industry behaviours and industry best practice
  • Understanding and working with complex precision products
  • Different industry roles and activities across live projects
  • The Manufacturing Product Lifecycle and key industry processes
  • Manufacturing tools and methods
  • Structured and methodical approaches to problem solving and investigation

 

Modern Apprenticeship Programme

 

These roles are for a full Modern Apprenticeship programme, culminating in the achievement of SVQ PEO Level 2, Diploma 7, and an HNC Level Academic qualification

 

By the end of the 4-year programme, successful candidates will achieve fully qualified Engineering status

 

  • Year 1: For the first 6 months, you will complete SVQ PEO Level 2 and the HNC full time at a further education provider. The remainder of the year will be completed by attending the Glasgow Thales site in your first placement

 

  • Years 2 & 3: You will work in production work cells on a rotational basis to build a fully flexible range of core skills across Assembly and Test manufacturing processes. Training will be recorded, verified to Diploma 7/SVQ standards, and externally assessed and verified

 

  • Year 4: You will complete the Diploma 7 Work Based Learning job packs to achieve the full qualification. You will then progress into roles such as Integration and Test Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, Product System Testing, Inspection, Optical Testing, and Environmental Testing. A full review of further education will take place, with consideration of a higher-level qualification where appropriate

 

 

Entry Requirements

To apply, you will need:

 

  • 2 Highers in English and Maths at level B or above
  • 5 National 5s including English, Maths and a Science subject at Grade C or above

 

Live and work in Scotland for the duration of the programme.

Please note, assessment centres for shortlisted candidates will be held between February - May 2027.  Induction week for all Graduate and Apprentices will take place from Monday 6 September - Friday 10 September 2027.
