Amazon Manufacturing Services is an internal Amazon service specializing in the production of high-quality components through additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly. We serve design engineers, product developers, operations engineers, and retail product concept testing teams across Amazon.
About the Role
AMS seeks a Quality Engineer to own quality systems and processes across our world-class manufacturing facility. You will ensure product quality meets customer specifications while maintaining ISO 9001 certification and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires strong technical metrology expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing teams and external suppliers.
Key job responsibilities
Quality Systems and Compliance
• Maintain and improve ISO 9001 quality management system certification
• Develop and document quality procedures, work instructions, and inspection criteria
• Conduct internal audits and support external certification audits
• Drive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards
Metrology and Inspection
• Program and operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and other metrology equipment
• Set inspection criteria and sampling plans for incoming materials, in-process, and final products
• Perform first article inspections and generate detailed inspection reports
• Conduct capability analysis (Cp, Cpk) to validate process performance
• Execute Gage R&R studies to ensure measurement system accuracy and repeatability
Supplier Quality Management
• Conduct supplier audits to assess quality systems and manufacturing capabilities
• Own supplier quality performance and drive improvement initiatives
• Review and approve supplier first article inspection reports
• Manage non-conformance issues with suppliers and implement corrective actions
• Qualify new suppliers and materials
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with manufacturing managers to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements
• Work with production teams on root cause analysis and problem-solving
• Support Customer Success team with quality documentation and customer inquiries
• Collaborate with engineering teams on design for manufacturability and quality requirements
• Train production staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and documentation
Continuous Improvement
• Lead Six Sigma projects to reduce defects and improve process capability
• Analyze quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• Implement statistical process control (SPC) methods
• Drive cost of quality reduction initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of quality assurance engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Proficiency with CMM programming and operation
- Experience with statistical analysis tools and methods (capability analysis, Gage R&R, SPC)
- Demonstrated ability to create first article inspection reports
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six Sigma Green Belt, or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
- 5+ years of quality engineering experience in contract manufacturing or multi-process environments
- Experience with multiple manufacturing processes (CNC machining, welding, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, coating, assembly)
- Supplier audit and supplier quality management experience
- Proficiency with metrology equipment beyond CMM (optical comparators, surface roughness testers, hardness testers, etc.)
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading
- Experience with quality management software and statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, or similar)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
