Job Description
As the Principal Technologist, Regulated Industries for the Benelux, you will be a senior technical authority on the regulated industries' use of cloud across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. You will represent AWS to government, regulators, industry organizations, academia, and customers in regulated industries, helping them understand how AWS's infrastructure, security posture and compliance capabilities relate to their evolving requirements.
You will divide your time between customer-facing technical engagement and deep technical work inside AWS. Externally you work with customers in financial services, healthcare, critical infrastructure and the public sector who face regulatory requirements around cloud, security and data residency, and with the regulators and industry bodies that set those requirements. Internally you partner with AWS service teams on the roadmap, feature and capacity questions that regulated-industry requirements raise, and with Security Assurance, Legal, Public Policy and Sales to ensure alignment.
Key job responsibilities
The role owns the technical position on regulated-industry cloud adoption across the Benelux. You serve as a primary technical point of contact for named accounts in financial services, healthcare, critical infrastructure and the public sector, leading executive technical engagement across cloud security, compliance architecture, service roadmap and infrastructure. You liaise with AWS service teams to ensure the roadmap meets the technical commitments implied by regulatory and data-residency requirements across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. You interpret how emerging regulation in these industries translates into technical requirements and you advise the business and customers on what those shifts mean for cloud architecture, security and compliance. You track EU-level developments alongside the national regulatory pictures in all three Benelux markets, including sovereignty frameworks where relevant, and turn them into practical, technically grounded guidance.
Thought leadership is a core part of the role. You represent AWS's technical position at industry conferences, sector forums and AWS events across the Benelux, and you publish technically grounded guidance for the financial services, healthcare, critical infrastructure and public sector communities. You build and sustain a strong technical network across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, engaging regulators, industry bodies and standards groups, and you help other architects and customer speakers develop and land their own content. Through this work you establish AWS as the recognized technical authority for regulated industries in the region.
You coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, regulators, industry associations, academia and policymakers. You articulate cloud technology, security and compliance in terms that resonate with each of these audiences, through both written and verbal means. Internally you partner with Security Assurance, Legal, Public Policy and Sales to keep AWS's positions aligned and to help the business adapt its policies and priorities to better support regulated-industry customers. This is an individual contributor role that works across cross-functional teams and colleagues throughout the EU and globally.
A day in the life
Based in Amsterdam with regular travel across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. A typical week mixes technical deep dives with regulated-industry customers, executive conversations on architecture and roadmap, and syncs with AWS service teams. Some of your time goes to regulators, industry bodies and the occasional conference. You are the consistent technical presence across the region.
