Purpose of the Role

As a First Mile Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating and executing landside transportation orders efficiently, safely and in accordance with customer requirements, company procedures and applicable regulations.


You will work closely with internal teams, transport suppliers, customers and relevant authorities to ensure shipments are planned, monitored and delivered successfully. The role will also contribute to supplier performance, cost optimisation, process improvement and a consistently strong customer experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

Landside Operations Execution

  • Execute day-to-day landside transportation activities, including shipment planning, monitoring, reporting and operational follow-up.
  • Coordinate with transport suppliers to ensure shipments are delivered successfully and within agreed service requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify the most effective and cost-efficient solutions for landside operations.
  • Proactively support customers and suppliers by resolving daily operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate daily and weekly operational reports.
  • Support the onboarding of new customers and suppliers, including introductions to relevant products, processes and systems.
  • Ensure operational activities are executed in accordance with established standard operating procedures and transportation management system requirements

 

Supplier and Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with existing and new transport suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance against agreed service levels and key performance indicators.
  • Work closely with customer-facing teams, Finance, Procurement and Customs House Brokerage teams to support smooth end-to-end execution.
  • Liaise with local authorities, suppliers and customers on matters affecting landside transportation services.
  • Communicate operational issues clearly and provide proactive updates to relevant stakeholders. 

 

Process and Performance Improvement

  • Identify operational and process gaps and actively contribute to improvement initiatives that strengthen productivity, service levels and on-time delivery.
  • Support proactive customer notifications by improving communication and operational visibility.
  • Research and recommend more effective ways of delivering services from both operational and cost perspectives.
  • Support the implementation of new processes and improvements to existing workflows.
  • Improve the utilisation of company assets and operational systems, including transportation management systems and leased trucks.
  • Challenge operational limitations and existing business rules where appropriate to improve service delivery and customer experience.
  • Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and more efficient cost-to-serve outcomes.

 

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure landside transportation activities comply with applicable government regulations, company policies and customer requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory developments, including health and safety requirements, that may affect customers, suppliers or the organisation.
  • Understand and apply relevant elements of Maersk’s Integrated Management Systems within the scope of the role, including ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management.

 

Team Contribution

  • Share operational knowledge, lessons learned and best practices with colleagues.
  • Encourage the team to identify viable alternative solutions and take an active role in resolving customer concerns within agreed timelines.
  • Support a collaborative, customer-focused and continuous-improvement culture.
