Job Description

Join Amazon's FinTech Tax Technology team to architect and build next-generation tax systems that power billions of dollars in accurate payments across Amazon's global businesses. You'll design scalable, distributed solutions that enable millions of vendors, sellers, and partners worldwide to comply with complex tax regulations while supporting Amazon's expansion into new markets and business models.

Key job responsibilities

Design and architect distributed tax processing services and microservices that scale to handle billions of transactions while maintaining security, performance, and reliability across multiple Amazon business lines

Develop and deliver extensible, scalable, and resilient solutions that integrate withholding tax processing, financial data, and global tax requirements with enterprise systems

Collaborate with finance, tax, and business teams to understand regulatory requirements and translate them into technical solutions that enable new market and business model launches

Provide technical leadership by mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and establishing best practices for building service-oriented, serverless, and secure architecture

Solve complex problems at their root by understanding broader business context, identifying opportunities for simplification, and making thoughtful trade-offs between innovation and operational excellence


A day in the life
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on our FinTech Tax Technology team, you'll focus on designing and delivering distributed tax processing systems that handle billions of dollars in transactions across multiple Amazon business lines. Your day might include collaborating with finance and tax teams to understand new regulatory requirements, architecting microservices that integrate withholding tax processing with enterprise systems, or mentoring other engineers on scalable design patterns. You'll work within a highly distributed environment, balancing the need for rapid innovation with the precision required in financial systems. You'll also participate in code reviews, contribute to technical design discussions, and help shape the technical direction of our platform as we expand into new geographies and business models.

Basic Qualifications:

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
