Sr. Software Development Engineer (Level 6), AWS Field Experience (AFX) - Boston | Amazon Job

Job Description

The Amazon Web Services (AWS)AFX team is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE III) with a passion for technology, an obsession with bar-raising customer experiences, and a drive to build something new that operates at worldwide scale. In this role, you'll implement modern, creative, and innovative data experiences across a breadth of customer-facing web apps, our data warehouse for reporting, and integrations with third-party applications.

This is a high-visibility role across AWS internally and the global community of AWS developers and users. Key job responsibilities
Build Gen AI & agentic experiences — design and ship features powered by large language models, retrieval, and autonomous/agentic workflows that operate reliably at scale.
Partner closely with design and product teams to understand needs, propose features, create early prototypes, and transform them into compelling experiences.
Integrate information from a large number of services into cohesive, performant systems.
Write clean, maintainable code and perform thorough, kind peer code reviews.
Deep-dive into client and server systems to optimize for performance, maintainability, and extensibility.
Propose innovative tools, frameworks, automations, and processes adopted across the services team.
Mentor team members and promote engineering excellence.
Tackle ambiguous problems, rapidly produce prototypes, and outline clear paths from prototype to production.

Basic Qualifications:

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications:

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
