Job Summary:

We have an immediate need for a Hybrid Principal System/Software Quality Engineer for Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) located in Tewksbury, MA or Marlborough, MA.

**Employee must reside within 120 miles (travel compensation not included). **

LADS includes Global Patriot (USA, International), Lower Tier Air & Missile (Ghost-Eye), Short/Medium-Range Ground-Based Air (E-IFPC, Stinger, MRAD, SHORAD), Precision Fires & Maneuver (Javelin, TOW, LRPF), and High Energy Lasers (CUAS).

Software Quality Engineering (SWQE), within Engineering Sustainment Quality Assurance (ESQA), provides solutions and services to the business. It is embedded in the lifecycle to prevent defects and ensure quality, cost, schedule, and technical objectives are met.

Digital products include simulation models, software, firmware, with release, defect, and documentation management. Employee will ensure verification and validation of design, development, and integration of digital products.

Position performs on-site work in Classified Labs and some remote unclassified work. Group is in Tewksbury MA (most programs) and Marlborough MA. For collaboration and testing, Local Travel is periodically required between sites, and to Andover MA and occasionally Pelham NH.


Responsibilities to Anticipate:

Processes – Experience with Agile and DevOps software processes. Knowledge of emerging software development and quality best practices. Emphasis on testing, continuous integration, and continuous monitoring. Conduct code analysis and root cause corrective action.

Compliance – Participate in all phases of product design and development. Ensure digital products are compliant to contractual and corporate process requirements. Review and approve inputs and outputs to/from Software, Systems, and Integration & Test organizations.

Product – Ensure integrity of the technical data package. Monitor and participate in the test and release. Identify and measure software quality attributes, metrics, and data.

Improvement – Perform independent evaluations and risk assessments across lifecycle. Lead project activities to improve processes and facilitate root cause analysis with corrective actions.

Teamwork – Interact with customers, product development, and test personnel. Provide guidance to senior leadership and to team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and eight (8) years of engineering experience.
  • 8 years working experience applying advanced technical principles in Software & Firmware: development process (code reviews), defect management (prioritization, resolution), artifact assessment (software, configuration).
  • Working experience with Agile and DevOps tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira, Jenkins, Git, Coverity, Rhapsody, and/or Cucumber, Selenium, Fortify, Oracle, SAP) or other (e.g., ClearCase).
  • Working experience with software Quality Metrics development, tracking, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, and best practices across defense and/or commercial industries.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced STEM Degree.
  • Leader of Focused Strategic Initiatives across Programs and/or of Medium Project Teams.
  • Ability to review quality requirements for Proposal Bidding.
  • System-of-Systems thinking and understanding of multi-system interfaces, components, and complex dependencies throughout Engineering Development, Software & System Test, and Quality Assurance integrated lifecycles.
  • Industry Certifications (Quality, Software, Agile/SCRUM, Project).
  • Experience with Software Requirements (contract, SOW, specifications), development (design, code, build), test (traceability, procedures, reports), compliance (validation, verification, auditing), continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and monitoring (BI).
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and standards (ISO9001, AS9100, AS9115.)
  • Experience using Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, CORE) for Software and Systems.
  • Knowledge of Lifecycle Phases and Gates (e.g., IPDS - Integrated Product Development Sys.)
  • Experience with Signal Processing, Radar / Sonar, Guidance / Navigation, Networking, Communications, and associated algorithms.
  • Ability to serve as Software Quality organizational spokesperson to other functions.
  • Possess workload ownership skills to satisfy demanding implementation schedules.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communications with proven interpersonal skills.

Additional Information:

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
