Principal Analytical Chemist - Advanced Technology (Onsite)

The Mission Systems Advanced Technology and Capabilities (ATC) organization is seeking a Systems Engineer (Scientist) for our chemical detection and analysis programs. This role will support our technology development programs for the US Department of Defense in chemical weapons and explosives detection, and Homeland Security programs supporting explosives and illicit drug detection.  

The selected candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers engaged in basic technology development including concept development and trade studies, basic system design, laboratory prototyping and experimentation, troubleshooting, specification development, program documentation and customer interaction. The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for research projects, engage with various program managers and closely coordinate with our value Stream Management and Business Development peers as well as customers. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, physics or related discipline.  

  • 7+ years experience with track record of project execution in analytical chemistry or related discipline. 

  • Familiarity with time-of-flight and ion trap mass spectrometry, mobility spectrometry, RAMAN spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, microfluidics and similar related techniques for chemical detection. 

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment 

  • Ability to work independently across all functions/levels in a large multidisciplinary teams 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, share project progress internally and externally through oral presentations and written reports 

  • Share in the authorship of program proposals to external agencies and participate in the government contract execution

The salary range for this role is 103,000 USD - 215,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
