Collins Aerospace in Windsor Locks, CT, is seeking an experienced Program Operations Manager to run Integrated Product Teams focused on the procurement, assembly, test, and shipment of flight-rated space hardware.

ISR & Space Systems Windsor Locks is looking for energetic and highly motivated candidates for its Manufacturing Operations Organization. The position is the focal point for the execution of daily activities to deliver high quality, highly engineered development and production hardware on-time to its customers. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing team in tasks ranging from requirements planning through the manufacturing and shipment of deliverables. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of an Integrated Product Team. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment.

This role is eligible for relocation benefits for eligible candidates.

As a Program Operations Manager, you will be immersed in the following activities:

  • Lead manufacturing advance planning to ensure paperwork, tooling, and processes are in place to meet build schedules
  • With operations engineering, ensure router times are accurate and lab and procurement schedules meet customer needs
  • Directs and coordinates sequencing of work, such as build and delivery, to ensure smooth operations and optimal use of resources
  • Develop cost-saving opportunities
  • Manage budgets and perform cost account manager activities from procurement to shipment
  • Coordination of operation change activities
  • Coordination of manufacturing and test failure investigation activities
  • Driving issue resolution closures due to assembly, test, and procurement challenges
  • Interfaces with customers to understand customer needs and issues and ensure that the customers receive satisfactory standards of service
  • Manages and supervises the work of manufacturing production disciplines in the Operations function through a matrix organization
  • Performs professional or management work regularly across multiple manufacturing disciplines
  • Works proposals for new business or updates to existing programs
  • Includes activities that cannot be attributed to a defined Operations discipline

The candidate will drive the execution of operation responsibilities on the program while meeting both internal and external customer expectations.  Direct communication with customers will be required, including daily tag-ups and weekly and quarterly meetings.  This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to lead and work as a cross-functional team member. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
  • Typically requires a University Degree and a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience or, in the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project engineering and or manufacturing cell leadership
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • Experience with ERP (SAP Preferred), Production Planning, or Project Management.
  • Microsoft Project Skills
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, including coaching and mentoring of other operations staff
  • Ability to bring team members together and work problems to resolution
