The Collins Aerospace Vision Systems business in Wilsonville, Oregon, designs and manufactures Head Up Guidance Systems (HGS), Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD) and Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) for commercial and military platforms. Whether it’s a nighttime operation or low visibility in adverse weather conditions, our HGS paired with EVS camera sensors give our customers the power and assurance of unprecedented situational and terrain awareness. In addition, our HMD technologies provide pilots with advanced situational awareness delivering critical information on their helmet’s visor, enhancing response times, and reducing workload.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Manufacturing Electrical Engineers (MEE) collaborate with their Design and Test Engineer counterparts designing hardware to optimize internal and external manufacturing and test processes for new products. MEEs seize opportunities to advance, streamline, and automate the electrical manufacturing and test processes in line with the new technologies built in NPI. 

As a Principal Manufacturing Electrical Engineer, you will be a functional lead on large scale projects with significant impact on site success. You will collaborate to develop strategic solutions for challenging and complex issues under pressure. This role is typically viewed as the subject matter expert within the function and includes the opportunity to represent the team in high level functional strategy and operational goal development. You will lead by example using effective communication to guide and support early career engineers through challenges and mentor them in skill and career development.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive resolution and improvement plans for top level and circuit card failures including communicating findings to engineering peers and collaborating on solutions.
  • Eliminate/reduce test defects and improve test yields by performing root cause analysis and taking corrective action to resolve test failures.
  • Evaluate appropriate level of testing based on design and manufacturing complexity and influence development of optimal test process flows.
  • Analyze test data using statistical process control to proactively reduce test flow inhibitors.
  • Coaches, reviews, and delegates assignments to early career engineers including contributing to goal development of the discipline.
  • Provide in-depth closed loop technical assistance and training support to floor test technicians.
  • Influence hardware and test equipment design reviews as an active stakeholder.
  • Verify functionality of new test equipment, procedures, and documentation for production readiness.
  • Plan and execute measurement system analysis (MSA) / gage R&R for new test equipment prior to deploying in a production environment.
  • Consult during bidding phase to develop test strategy and achieve advance manufacturing strategic initiatives.
  • Provide test related inputs to the Manufacturing Readiness Level assessment.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality, Program Management and Operations.
  • Work proactively utilizing communication, planning, and organizational skills to adapt to changing priorities and assignments while executing multiple projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Proficient in circuit analysis and performing hands on troubleshooting of circuit card assemblies.
  • Experience with various types of electrical and optical systems.
  • Knowledge of aerospace or manufacturing processes, test requirements, procedure development, and product quality requirements.
  • Proficient with root cause analysis and other lean manufacturing tools.
  • Strong peer leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable with Application Lifecycle Management software and Requirements Tracing software (JIRA, SAP, DOORS).
  • Experience with government and regulatory body requirements, such as, FAA, DOE, DoD, etc.
