Collins Aerospace in Wilson, NC is seeking a Weld Engineer to join the team. This position is for a skilled engineer with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise in weld manufacturing engineering as well as other materials joining processes such as brazing. This professional also requires experience in design of welding sequences, implementation of various welding and materials joining processes across multiple cells, execution of process and product improvements, and review of manufacturability of existing and future product.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Managing projects of welder and materials joining process installation, qualification, and procedure development for manufacturing

  • Developing and qualifying welds with various metals

  • Provide expertise for GTAW manual and automated welding or welding preparation processes

  • Leading the GTAW welding process adherence for NADCAP and or other audit requirements

  • Evaluate welds or materials using NDT and DT methods to analyze and improve process

  • Troubleshooting and developing calibration requirements for weld equipment

  • Evaluates potential solutions related to changes in equipment design, procedures, manpower, personnel, or training to ensure the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow

  • Establishes and implements quality control objectives, activities or procedures to resolve production problems, optimize product reliability or minimize costs

  • Reviews and provides analytical input to documents and operational procedures to support studies pertaining to cost control, production improvement, cost savings, inventory control and production record systems

  • Provide expertise for vacuum, resistance, torch, hydrogen furnace and other brazing processes

  • Initiative Change Management for welding, brazing or other weld preparation processes

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal degree or certification in weld engineering

  • Experience with AWS D17.1 codes and standards

  • GTAW and or Laser welding specific certification or formal training

  • NDT technology degree or certification

  • NADCAP prior experience

  • CAD / 3D Modeling

  • SAP experience
