Job Summary:

Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation.  We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.

The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics.

The DPHM Advanced Military Engine Program (AMEP) Principal Engineer role will be responsible for Development of Prognostic Health Management (PHM) System for 6th Gen Military Engine Programs.  This includes defining the subsystem requirements for hardware and software, advancing a variety of technologies for gas path diagnostics, fault detection and isolation through Machine Learning (ML) and Big Data Analytics.  PHM Sensing Systems cover front to back of the Propulsion System and interface with aircraft software for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) fleet management.  In this role, AMEP DPHM Principal Engineer will collaborate with a large cross-section of P&W engineering and sustainment team as well as Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) customer to identify CBM capability needs for 6th Gen programs and capturing them in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.  This position type is for on-site and requires active security clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize MBSE to define PHM System and Subsystem level Hardware and Software requirement  
  • Drive maturation plan for PHM Sensing functions
  • Advance new technologies for sensors and algorithm for PHM/CBM
  • Integrate between P&W, Collins and Research Center
  • Perform sub-system trade studies
  • Develop On-Board and Off-board Algorithms for Usage Based Lifing (UBL) and Condition Based Inspection (CBI)
  • Implement Artificial Intelligent/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Fault Detection, Isolation and Removal
  • Manage Data system requirement between Propulsion System and Airframer software

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, or An Advanced Degree with 3+ years’ experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and exposure to aerospace control and diagnostic systems
  • Experience in gas turbine engine subsystems and their architecture, performance, and analysis
  • Proficiency in MBSE methodology and tools such as CAMEO and DOORs
  • Experience in coordinating with multiple organizations, operating in cross-functional IPTs and using Agile tools such as JIRA
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate, lead, influence and coordinate across teams in strategic projects and initiatives
  • Familiarity with modern data analysis, signal processing and AI/ML
  • Skilled in programing with MATLAB, LABVIEW, Python, Java, Kubernetes, Apache Spark
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing tools and methods, particularly AWS and/or Azure.
