The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for engineering activities associated with the design, sustainment, development, and production support of components in Power & Controls.  The Project Engineer supports hardware, software, and test issues for sustaining products.  They will also support obsolescence and improvements for products within the assigned product families.

The Senior Project Engineer is a hybrid role to Windsor Locks, CT or Phoenix, AZ.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Meet program schedules and budgets.
  • Provide EVMS data weekly/monthly.
  • Communicate project status, issues, etc., in line with reporting process guidelines, to various stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and Support required Design Reviews.
  • Support development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Create cost estimates and rationale for all Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) effort necessary to perform the program.
  • Compile all assumptions, dependencies, risks, and opportunities related to NRE cost estimates.
  • Determine task descriptions based on the scope of work to be performed and the deliverables.
  • Generate resource loaded schedules in MS-Project.
  • Review project and budget status, manage schedules, and prepare reports.
  • Manage and coordinate hardware and software development configurations throughout the engineering process.
  • Monitor and assess project issues; develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Direct the work of employees assigned to the Integrated Project Teams.
  • Provide clear, concise communications with peers and Collins leadership.
  • Identify and react to project problems and recommend solutions, such as reallocating resources.
  • Record and document delays, changes in scope, and any other incidents that impact the scope of work or schedule to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Identify and implement mitigation plans to ensure successful project completion.
  • Conduct meetings and present progress relating to engineering and financial aspects of the project.
  • Liaise between Operations and the customer as required.
  • Coordinate the preparation of proposals, and lead efforts for bid requests.
  • Coordinate HW & SW test equipment modifications throughout the development process.
  • Support product transition from development to production through Entry Into Service.
  • Travel expectations up to 25% for testing and quarterly meetings as required.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

  • Collins Management Systems experience
  • Agile development methodology
  • Teamcenter, MS Project, PowerPoint and Excel experience
  • Experience working across a highly matrixed organization, including team members, suppliers, and customers
  • Experience leading multifunctional teams
  • Integration and Testing experience

This role is also eligible for the Re-Empower Program.
