The Senior Systems Manager is responsible for managing experienced professionals and team leaders in Systems Engineering and would report to the Manager for Systems Integration.  This position is expected to coordinate the activities of assigned system integration engineers, and work with internal stakeholders and external customers daily to ensure program execution and customer commitments are being met. The Manager develops total systems solutions with a short to medium-term focus. The Manager also directs key activities, manages budget and key performance targets, and plans for more effective utilization of human and material resources to achieve operational objectives.

Specific areas of responsibility include system requirements definition and management, decomposition of system requirements to subsystem component hardware and/or software, definition and management of system hardware and software interfaces, creation of system architectures that meet overall requirements, validation and verification of system requirements, and development and implementation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes.

Onsite:

  • Must be a commutable distance from Rockford, IL to work onsite. This position is eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Acting as Primary Systems Integration technical management focal point for assigned development programs.
  • Interfacing directly with the technical systems integration engineers supporting assigned programs for technical planning, execution, design reviews, and technical decision-making.
  • Negotiating required resources to meet agreed commitments on assigned programs.
  • Interfacing with PMO including SIPTS and Chief Engineers to provide review and coordination of customer & and supplier support on assigned programs.
  • Chairing regular meetings and driving actions to closure with IPD teams, including suppliers.
  • Attending and supporting customer meetings/telecons.
  • Leading a project team or multiple smaller project teams
  • Responsible for schedule, budget, staffing, outsourcing PO management, and or business/operational results of a functional team or project.
  • Directing individual contributors that may include more senior individuals.
  • Providing first-line management of resources and skill sets for associated programs.
  • Completing performance reviews for assigned engineers.
  • Working with associated leads/Discipline Chiefs and Program leadership to ensure best practices and design strategies are integrated into proposals and program plans.
  • Mentoring and coaching department staff and preparing staff for current and upcoming business roles.
  • Contributing directly to department strategy considering immediate and long-term goals.
  • Developing strong cross-functional ties with Product Team Leadership to establish a framework for an integrated approach to development programs.
  • Leading and applying improvements in methods, tools, process definitions, and design strategies.
  • Working effectively in a cross-functional environment with allied engineering groups and customer staff.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • 10+ years of experience with prior systems life cycle experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Technical leadership experience is required.
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with systems engineering concepts.
  • Full Aerospace Systems Engineering lifecycle experience.
  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Proficiency in CORE and/or Design for Six Sigma.
  • Prior aerospace experience is preferred.
