This position is for an experienced PCB Drafter/Designer. We are looking for applicants that are able to collaborate with a team of other drafters and engineers to help create and utilize cutting edge technology, and have the technical skills to solve complex problems with ingenuity and creativity. A successful applicant will have a strong background in PCB design skills using the Cadence Allegro and/or equivalent design toolset, and mechanical design skills sufficient to be able to understand and interpret complex mechanical drawings as they relate to PCBs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create schematic symbols and PCB footprints in the eCAD library as needed for new components

  • Assist Electrical Engineers with creating and completing schematics

  • With input from component, electrical, and mechanical engineers, create and maintain bills of materials

  • Work with electro-mechanical designers to determine PCB size, shape, and mounting scheme

  • Perform component placement balancing power and signal flow with area utilization, mechanical constraints, and circuit heat dissipation

  • Create a stack up with consideration for heat dissipation, signal integrity, and EMI characteristics

  • Route ground and power planes with consideration for component heat dissipation, power integrity, and EMI mitigation

  • Route traces with consideration for signal integrity, impedance control, voltage requirements and mitigation of cross-talk and EMI

  • Create solder mask, solder stencil, and silk screen artwork

  • Create detailed PCB and CCA drawings following company drafting practices and technical standards

  • Create Gerber/ODB++/IPC-2581 output files for fabricators and assemblers

  • Under direction of the Configuration management department, enter and manage design files, drawings, and bill of materials in the company PLM systems

  • Assist engineers with creating preliminary schematics and component area studies for new design proposals and concepts

  • Support Engineering changes for legacy PCB designs as needed

  • Assist with dispositioning and creating documentation for occasional CCA and PCB reworks

  • Assist lab technicians with troubleshooting and dispositioning malfunctioning or damaged PCBs and CCAs

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Certification may be required for technical support roles

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with PCB design and/or fabrication and assembly in an Aerospace environment

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity working with PLM systems such as Wind Chill (PDM Link) and/or Teamcenter

  • Experience with Mentor Xpedition and Global Component Database library management highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of military and commercial design standards, GD&T techniques and overall producibility considerations related to electronic packaging design.

  • Experience using Cadence HDL Design Entry for schematic capture.

  • Experience using Cadence Allegro PCB Designer 17.4 and constraint manager.

  • Experience creating detailed PCB and CCA drawings to aerospace drafting standards.

  • Export manufacturing data of both Gerber and ODB++ and use of Design Rule Checking software.

  • Ability to work with PCB fabricators and assemblers to solve manufacturability issues and disposition defects that occur during PCB fabrication and assembly.

The salary range for this role is 57,000 USD - 121,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
