We are seeking a well-qualified Principal Infrastructure Engineer for a Hardware Engineering and Infrastructure (HWI) team on a Department of Defense (DoD) weapon system development team.  This is a prime contractor level position in a Scrum environment, providing support to geographically dispersed hardware/software development teams. 

The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for development, maintaining and implementing Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) solutions in both Windows and Linux based environments. The Infrastructure Engineer is accountable for a continuous, repeatable, secure, and automated deploy, integration, and test solutions in support of mission critical advanced ground system solutions. Infrastructure engineers work closely with cyber to ensure security controls are met and they also work closely with software engineers, systems engineers, and implementation teams to ensure performance and deployment compliance.

This position is located on-site in Dulles, VA. Occasional (<25%) travel to customer operational locations is required for system installation and troubleshooting support.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage company and industry best practices and capabilities to assist with deployment, implementation, modernization, and support of infrastructure solutions.

  • Support software tool customization and automation including deployment of templates, dashboards, and scripts to support program needs.

  • Design, implement, generate code through scripting tools, test, document, and maintain the system.

  • Utilize modern tools such as Ansible, Docker, Rancher, Terraform or other similar tools to move these systems forward in the technology stack.

  • Development of build/test pipeline and integration, optimizing for performance and scalability across cloud and on-premise computing environments.

  • Developing and ensuring that infrastructure designs meet technical, cost and schedule requirements.

  • Support of software, hardware components and integration of these systems.

  • Support of several complex on/off premises compute environments that form the backbone for the operational deployment.

  • Communicate any risks or issues involving system performance, availability, or security.

  • Perform documentation updates.

  • Assist and integrate the selected platform provisioning tool such as VMware / Ansible or Terraform as needed.

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  • Current Top Secret (TS) Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance required prior to start date.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with VMware Installation and Administration and provisioning (E.g. VMware / Vsphere).

  • Experience in COTS/FOSS product installation, configuration, and integration.

  • Experience with implementing security controls.

  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux (E.g. RHEL 8.0+).

  • Experience with Server hardware administration, including remote iDRAC/iLO, some basic repair.

  • Experience with container development and orchestration (Helm, Kubernetes/Longhorn/Rancher, Docker).

  • System deployment using automation frameworks tools (Ansible or Terraform preferred).

  • CompTIA Security + or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enterprise Application development and deployment processes.

  • Experience with Agile Scrum processes.

  • Experience with code repository systems (E.g. ClearCase, Bit Bucket, Artifactory).

  • Exposure to public cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.) infrastructure environments.

  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, BitBucket, Jenkins, and other pipeline products.

  • Experience with Bash Script.
