Senior Systems Engineer - Thermal & Structural Analysis - Space Systems (Remote)

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).  An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. 

Collins Aerospace is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products.  The Intelligent Sensors & Space Systems business unit provides products and services to global government and commercial customers that enable mission success in the harshest environments of space, in the air, at sea, and on the ground.  In Space Systems, we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Space systems (ECLSS) and Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) on a number of space platforms including the International Space Station, the current U.S. space suit, unmanned satellites, manned space vehicles such as the Boeing CST-100 Starliner and the Orion (part of the Artemis mission to return humans to the moon), as well as future the of Space Suit Services for space station and lunar missions.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Space Systems group (Mission systems) is looking for a talented engineer who has a passion to develop and explore in the space domain with focus on analysis. Hands on experience using Ansys focused toward thermal (Icepak, Sinda, etc.) and capable of running structural analysis. This role is critical in understanding electronic packaging to recommend changes to design based on analysis. Theoretical background in structural and thermal analysis understanding and need to have the mindset of analytical led design.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident "Green Card" holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with product development including generating new and unique ideas and design analysis.
  • Proficient in using ANSYS for structural and thermal analysis for heat transfer.
  • Generate engineering documentation such as analysis reports and Standards. 
  • Strong understanding on vibration/Shock for structural analysis and hands on experience running models using ANSYS with minimum supervision
  • Finite Element Analysis experience.  Proficiency with either heat transfer or radiation.
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be hands-on, comfortable using hand tools, and able to work on complex assemblies.
  • Must be proficient with Office 365.
  • Experience using product data management tools such as Windchill PDMLink, Teamcenter, Enovia, etc.
  • Knowledge of machining processes and GD&T.     

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronics packaging.
  • Experience with motor design and structural analysis.
  • Experience designing military or space systems.
  • Knowledge of molding manufacturing processes.     
  • Experience with ANSYS products.
  • Experience with ANSYS Icepak.

The salary range for this role is 75,000 USD - 161,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
