Job Summary:

Raytheon’s Airborne Multi-Mission Electronics Department part of Integrated Electrical Solution mission area, is seeking an experienced power electronics design engineer to work onsite in El Segundo, CA to design and develop power conversion technologies for the airborne military applications.   

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

• DC/DC and multiphase to DC, RF power supply circuits, control loop, stability analysis

• FPGA based design, DDR/other memories, digital to RF conversion

• Worst case circuit analysis and derating, design obsolescence, failure investigations

• Scope of work and head count proposals for potential projects

• Requirements documents and testing requirements

• As needed team lead and REA (responsible engineer authority)/mentor assignments

A PhD can account for 5 years of experience as required for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience in Engineering/other technical positions.
  • Experience with any of the following non-isolated converter topologies: 
    • Buck
    • Boost
    • Buck-boost
  • Experience with design, analysis, and/or test with analog electronic design
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design, analysis, and/or test experience with any of the following isolated converter topologies:  flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, and/or push-pull. Design scope will ideally include stability
  • Experience with performing circuit card assembly-level power architecture trades, and/or with system-level power architecture trades, including power converter specification development experience
  • Professional experience guiding Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation (direct experience with such tools is adequate to fulfill this requirement)
  • Familiarity with circuit simulator SIMPLIS and/or analysis tool Mathcad
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, and/or Hyperlynx
  • Experience with acting as a liaison between program and functional management
  • Experience with digital power control
  • Experience with programming DSP and/or FPGA device(s)
  • Experience with military specifications
  • Experience with transformer and inductor design considerations
  • Experience with AC/DC power rectification
  • Design experience with Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) concerns
  • Design experience with voltages > 400V and/or power > 10kW
  • Experience with FET, BJT, and/or Op-amp circuits
  • Experience with program management tools such as Earned Value
  • Experience with proposal development
  • Ability to design to meet concerns of adjacent disciplines, such as thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality
  • Ability to be a self-starter and be able to function in a dynamic environment
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and time management skills

Location Information:

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 176,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
