Job Description

RBKS is seeking a talented and experienced Color, Material and Finish (CMF) Designer to join our Industrial Design team. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end development of CMF strategies that enhance the aesthetics, functionality and durability across diverse hardware product portfolio. You will play a pivotal role in defining design vision — forecasting trends, developing innovative material solutions and ensuring alignment with product requirements and strategic objectives.

You will manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst maintaining accurate documentation, tracking and release of CMF information. Working closely with suppliers, engineers, industrial designers and cross-functional teams, you will translate creative concepts into manufacturable solutions — ensuring feasibility, consistency and successful implementation into mass production.

This role requires a forward-thinking designer who thrives on material research and innovation, driving sustainability, manufacturing advancements and next-generation material applications. You will proactively identify emerging trends, analyze industry insights and explore innovative materials and finishes to position the hardware portfolio at the forefront of quality and innovation. You will also leverage generative AI tools and emerging technologies to accelerate concept development, streamline design workflows and enhance decision-making across the CMF pipeline.

Given our global operations, this role requires coordination across multiple time zones and international locations — including participation in weekly early-morning or late-evening online meetings and one to two international trips annually.

Key job responsibilities
-Lead the development and execution of CMF solutions across RBKS hardware product portfolio. Establish and maintain design consistency, ensuring that CMF strategies align with brand identity, user experience and long-term product vision.
-Identify opportunities for new or refreshed color palettes — leveraging market research, consumer insights and industry trends to inform strategic decisions. Conduct trend analysis using data from fashion, technology and material innovation services, ensuring that CMF direction remains competitive and forward-thinking.
-Develop digital and physical presentation materials to effectively communicate CMF design strategies. Present comprehensive CMF proposals to development teams, product managers and executives — ensuring alignment with product objectives and manufacturing feasibility.
-Direct a team of prototype specialists to create color and material targets, ensuring that design intent is accurately translated into physical samples. Oversee the color and finish matching process, collaborating with manufacturing and material suppliers to achieve high-quality execution.
-Initiate discussions with material engineers in Asia to explore new materials, finishes and production techniques. Evaluate emerging technologies and sustainable solutions, integrating innovative materials into Ring's hardware development pipeline.
-Maintain clear and structured communication with designers, engineers and program managers — ensuring seamless collaboration across teams. Provide regular updates on project status, incorporating constructive feedback to refine designs and optimize execution.
-Independently source and maintain a comprehensive internal library of inspirational, advanced and relevant materials and finishes. Ensure that all CMF documentation is accurate, accessible and aligned with production requirements.
-Leverage generative AI tools and platforms to accelerate concept exploration, generate design variations and produce production-ready renders. Identify opportunities to integrate AI-driven solutions — such as AI-powered quality control, automated trend analysis and intelligent material recommendation — into CMF workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy and innovation.
-Coordinate with designers, engineers and program managers across different time zones — participating in weekly early-morning or late-evening online meetings and one to two international trips annually as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Master's degree in CMF Design.
- Minimum of five years of work experience as a CMF Designer or equivalent education and experience.
- Proficient in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and KeyShot.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with internal design, cross-functional product development teams and suppliers.
- Demonstrated proficiency in generative AI tools and platforms — with the ability to apply AI to design workflows including concept generation, rendering and quality control processes.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of materials and manufacturing methods — including plastics, silicone, metals and coatings.
- Ability to autonomously generate and support pragmatic solutions that meet project timelines.
- High color acuity and ability to pass the Munsell Hue Color Test.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience working on consumer electronics or smart home hardware products.
- Familiarity with sustainable materials and environmentally responsible design practices.
- Experience implementing AI-powered solutions in design or manufacturing workflows — such as AI-driven quality control, automated defect detection or generative design tools.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI image generation platforms and data-driven design methodologies.
- Experience collaborating with international manufacturing partners and suppliers in Asia.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor prototype specialists or junior designers.
- Experience developing and presenting CMF strategies to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
