Collins Aerospace is seeking a Systems Engineer Intern to join the Avionics Fusion IPS Systems group. This team is responsible for the design, integration, development, certification, deployment and sustaining of our Avionics Systems on Bombardier large business jets through the lifecycle of the programs. The platforms supported includes more than 500 fielded aircraft for the Global 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500 and 7500 programs.


The position requires technical background; the candidate will witness in the development life cycle of software and hardware integration of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) Avionics in a Fusion IPS architecture, supporting requirements development, software integration, documentation, certification and sustaining activities for large size Business Jets as part of a Systems Engineering group. This position is onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA.

The candidate will support executing requirements-based testing, test scripts, scenario-based testing, robustness testing and unintended function testing in a lab environment. Schedule flexibility is necessary to maximize test assets utilization.

The candidate will support the troubleshooting and reporting of issues resulting from development cycles and investigations reported from fielded aircraft.

Candidates will join other team members operating the rig facilities during testing phases of the program and during troubleshooting activities. Understanding of aircraft operational fundamentals is preferred to be able to run flight test scenarios.

This position may be eligible for relocation. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support assignments involving Design and Requirement Developments activities.
  • Supports on-site execution of requirements-based testing, robustness, and Ad-Hoc testing in a lab environment (schedule flexibility is necessary during formal test phases).
  • Supports producing system certification level documentation.
  • Assists with the tracking and troubleshooting of assigned development and field issues.
  • Collaborates with engineers across multiple subsystems contributing toward a positive team working environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of avionics and aircraft systems and sub-systems.
  • Ground School, flying time towards private pilot FAA license.
  • Working towards an Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline.
