Job Summary:

The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) structures team is looking for an intern in  structures discipline to perform structural analyses of Mechanical System and Externals hardware on commercial engine programs.  The mechanical system/externals hardware include bearing supports, bearing centering springs, spacers, shafts, bearings, seals, gearboxes, oil tanks, fan drive gear system, tubes, brackets, nozzles, mounts and ducts. The structures engineer will be supporting FE analyses, running PW tools for life estimations, documenting results for structures discipline reviews, participating in multi-disciplined integrated product teams, presenting analysis results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis to support all phases of product development cycle including concept initiation, preliminary design, detailed design, testing and validation, certification, and post certification.
  • Provide recommendations to design team balancing structural, performance, weight, and producibility requirements. 
  • Provide test support during rig/engine validation and monitor critical instrumentation to get key learning points (KLPs) and ensure health & safety, perform data-reduction and analysis, and confirm test objectives are met. 
  • Use finite element analysis and classical methods to evaluate MSEN components strength, stiffness, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance capabilities. 
  • Document analysis results and present it in the meetings. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
