The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Principle Electrical Engineer to lead in developing complex engineering solutions. The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international. Typical test solutions include Electrical, Optical, In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan, as well as COTS components such as switch systems, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other related equipment coupled with custom software for performing automated testing of circuit card assemblies, top-level products, electro-mechanical products and Environmental Stress Screening.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience developing test solutions, from requirements to delivery. The candidate will have experience designing test systems, including identifying parts to be used, designing interconnects, and mapping the layout of the solution. The candidate must have detailed experience from the hardware perspective with an understanding of the software aspect as a preference. This person will have in-depth experience with troubleshooting hardware and properly and quickly identifying solutions. They will understand requirements and how to translate them into a solution for the customer. The candidate will have experience with drawing development and will be proficient with CAD tools for schematic capture (i.e., OrCAD, Altium, etc.)

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. As such, the candidate must have an unwavering positive attitude, be highly responsive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and strive to perform high-quality work proactively and efficiently. They will have the ability to work independently, while analyzing equipment and conducting experimental tests to establish operating data. This candidate will perform engineering work and applied research, coordinate activities involving the design and development of electronic equipment and devices and prepare engineering sketches and product information documentation.

The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success. Organizationally, the role reports to an Engineering Manager in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and facilitates the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, ensuing work is completed on time and established quality and budgets are achieved.
  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems and networks to ensure that business objectives and required specifications are met.
  • Prepares engineering sketches or specifications to construct, relocate, or install equipment, facilities, products, or systems.
  • Prepares documentation including confidential descriptions or specifications of proprietary hardware or software, information on product development, introduction schedules, product costs, and performance weaknesses to track progress and analyze performance.
  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design of new products to ensure quality standards and business objectives are met.
  • Provides technical mentoring to other junior engineers.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Well developed communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Have domain knowledge of avionics products.
  • LabView, C#, TestStand
  • CAD Tooling (OrCAD, AutoCAD, Altium, SolidWorks)
