The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an exceptional Statistician/Biostatistician to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary research community spanning the MUSC College of Nursing and the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVRTC) within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, College of Medicine.
This is an opportunity to build a meaningful academic career at the intersection of biostatistics, clinical research, nursing, behavioral health, trauma research, and implementation science. The successful candidate will work directly with investigators across two highly collaborative research environments, contributing statistical expertise from the earliest stages of study design and grant development through analysis, publication, and dissemination.
The position is housed in the College of Nursing and provides an equal 50/50 research and academic appointment between the College of Nursing and NCVRTC. This structure provides the opportunity to develop a broad portfolio of collaborative research while building a distinctive area of expertise within MUSC.
We are particularly interested in a faculty member who sees biostatistics not simply as a technical function, but as a strategic partner in research. The ideal candidate will enjoy working alongside investigators from multiple disciplines, helping shape research questions, developing rigorous study designs, securing extramural funding, and translating complex data into meaningful scientific findings.

• Partner with nationally recognized investigators on high-impact, interdisciplinary research
• Contribute to the development and analysis of randomized clinical trials, pragmatic and implementation trials, longitudinal studies, translational research, and large-scale surveys
• Collaborate on research addressing the mental health and behavioral consequences of trauma and victimization
• Support nursing research spanning clinical care, health systems, workforce, education, and population health
• Participate in the development of federally funded research proposals and serve as a statistical co-investigator on funded studies
• Mentor doctoral students, fellows, early-stage investigators, and emerging researchers
• Teach statistics and research methods and contribute to graduate education
• Participate in Data and Safety Monitoring Boards and other research leadership activities
• Develop a research portfolio that reflects the candidate's own scholarly interests and expertise
• Collaborate with investigators across MUSC, with opportunities for additional appointments in areas such as Public Health Sciences and Graduate Studies

The Opportunity

50% College of Nursing

Within the College of Nursing, the successful candidate will serve as a core statistical collaborator across a growing and highly interdisciplinary research enterprise.

Responsibilities include:

• Partnering with principal investigators in the development of competitive grant proposals
• Serving as statistical co-investigator on funded and developing research projects
• Providing advanced statistical consultation to faculty, fellows, and doctoral students
• Contributing to study design, analytic strategy, data interpretation, and scientific dissemination
• Teaching statistics and/or research methods
• Serving on PhD dissertation committees
• Mentoring students, fellows, and early-stage investigators
• Helping strengthen statistical and methodological capacity across the College

50% National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center

Within NCVRTC, the successful candidate will collaborate with investigators conducting innovative research focused on the mental health impact and treatment of trauma-affected populations.

Research opportunities may include:

• Treatment-development studies
• Randomized clinical trials
• Dissemination and implementation research
• Translational and laboratory-based research
• Large-scale survey studies
• Longitudinal and observational research

The faculty member will also:

• Collaborate with NCVRTC investigators on study design, statistical analysis, and scientific publications
• Contribute to the development of extramurally funded research proposals
• Provide statistical consultation to faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees
• Serve as a statistical mentor on career development and research training awards, including K awards and COBRE Research Project Leaders
• Participate on Data and Safety Monitoring Boards for extramurally funded clinical trials, as appropriate

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a collaborative statistician or biostatistician who is excited by team science, methodological rigor, and the opportunity to have a direct impact on research.

Candidates should have:

• A PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field
• A strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship and research productivity
• Experience contributing to grant development and extramural research
• Demonstrated experience securing or contributing to funded research
• A strong record of interdisciplinary collaboration
• Experience mentoring students, fellows, or early-stage investigators
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Programming experience in R, SAS, SPSS, or comparable statistical software

Experience in one or more of the following areas is particularly valuable:

• Design and analysis of randomized clinical trials
• Pragmatic, adaptive, or implementation trials
• Longitudinal data analysis, including mixed models, trajectory analysis, and survival analysis
• Latent variable modeling, including factor analysis, structural equation modeling, cluster analysis, and latent class/profile analysis
• Causal inference
• Multi-site clinical research
• Data and Safety Monitoring Boards

Candidates with an established record of clinical trial design and analysis, multi-site research leadership, and federal research funding are especially encouraged to apply.

Faculty rank will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience and may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level.
