Job Description

At Amazon, safety is our top priority. We are looking for a WHS Risk Engineer to own machinery safety across multiple sites. In this role you will lead machinery safety inspections and risk assessments, apply the EU Machinery Directive and harmonised standards, and influence engineering and operations leaders to build safe-by-design into our equipment and processes. You'll turn machinery-safety findings into consistent standards that protect our people across the network.


Key job responsibilities
- Lead machinery safety inspections and risk assessments across multiple sites.
- Apply and interpret the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and associated harmonised standards.
- Identify machinery and MHE risks and drive the implementation of effective control measures.
- Engage and influence functional leaders to build buy-in to Health & Safety standards and change.
- Use data and metrics to identify gaps and drive improvements across sites.

A day in the life
You work across several sites, moving between machinery inspections, risk assessments and working sessions with engineering and operations leaders. You dig into how equipment and MHE is designed, installed and used, spot risks that others miss, and drive agreement on the control measures needed. You use data to see patterns across sites and to prioritise where safety effort has the biggest impact. A large part of your day is influencing — helping functional leaders understand machinery risk and building buy-in to the Health & Safety standards and changes you recommend.


About the team
The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team plays a crucial role in keeping our people mentally and physically well at work. Our team works with managers, associates and local governments across our sites, ensuring compliance with Amazon's policies and legal regulations, and guaranteeing the safety of our work environments. The team offers a variety of opportunities, from Safety Technicians to Programme Managers. Regardless of your role, you'll contribute to the development and implementation of the safety strategy across the entire network.

Basic Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent level of qualification in-line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) in engineering (electrical, mechanical, civil, industrial engineering).
- Practical understanding and application of WHS risk assessment and safety standards.
- Experience in English language communication skills (B2/C1), both written and verbal.
- Experience conducting machinery safety inspections and risk assessments across multiple sites, applying the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC).
- Experience engaging and influencing functional leaders to build buy-in to Health & Safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with Lean, 5S or Kaizen methodologies and continuous improvement.
- Membership of a professional body in the field of occupational health and safety.
- Experience using data and metrics to identify gaps and drive improvements.
- Experience working for/with a Notified or Approved Body for Machinery Safety.
- Formal training or certification in Machinery Safety (e.g. CMSE).
- NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.
