Job Description

Amazon's Tax Exemption Program (ATEP) is seeking a Tax Analyst to join the Bratislava team within Tax Engine Operations team. ATEP is a program allowing eligible Amazon customers to present exemption certificates that let them purchase products without paying sales tax or VAT under certain circumstances.

The Tax Analyst will be responsible for monitoring exemption creation activity, carrying out remediation actions where appropriate, making regular updates to the ATEP user interface, and performing other functions in the tax exemption space. The candidate may propose improvements to processes, metrics, or documentation based on a thorough knowledge of their areas of responsibility.


Key job responsibilities
• Monitor and audit exemption certificate creation activity across Amazon's workflows, identifying anomalies and executing remediation actions to maintain program integrity and compliance
• Maintain and update the ATEP user interface on a regular cadence, ensuring accuracy of exemption-related content and alignment with current tax regulations and internal policy changes
• Keep all regularly-occurring workflows and operational processes on schedule, proactively flagging risks or blockers to the broader team and management
• Present regular team and project updates to stakeholders using metrics, KPIs, and narrative explanations that clearly communicate progress, risks, and outcomes
• Serve as a reliable point of contact between the team and cross-functional partners ensuring excellent visibility and communication on all active projects
• Collaborate with other Amazon teams (Tax Engine, Legal, Engineering) to unblock the local team's progress and drive resolution of cross-team dependencies
• Leverage BI tools (Tableau, Alteryx, QuickSight), Gen AI and Excel to analyze exemption data and surface actionable insights for process improvement
• Propose improvements to existing processes, metrics, and documentation based on thorough knowledge of ATEP operations and a data-driven, problem-solving approach

A day in the life
This role is dynamic and agile and requires daily work with global Amazon Tax Teams to build the most efficient solution, compliant with regulatory requirements for all products available across Amazon businesses. Additionally, this role will require ability to dive deep into the legislation and product details understanding the requirements to be compliant. Scope of the role may expand according to team's needs and additional experience skillset of the candidate to suit the individual's personal development and career goals. Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- Knowledge of strong understanding of tax compliance principles, regulations, and reporting requirements across jurisdictions
- Knowledge of general AI tools

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field
- Knowledge of at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar
- Experience researching indirect tax issues including taxability of products and services
- Knowledge of indirect tax systems across U.S. states and Canada

The minimum gross base pay salary for this position is listed below. The base salary listed corresponds to working on a full time basis. For part-time hours, the salary will be pro-rated.

Amazon reserves the right to offer a higher base salary, depending on the candidate's skills, competencies, and experience. Amazon's package may include a sign on payment. In addition, the candidate may be eligible to participate in a restricted stock unit scheme operated independently by Amazon.com Inc. in USA. Your recruiting team will share final salary and any restricted stock unit scheme if applicable, depending on skills and requirements.
